The Impact Of Cocurricular Experience On Leadership Development, Deborah H. White
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the impact of cocurricular activities on leadership development. College graduates recognized as community leaders were selected from three communities in Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Through survey and interview techniques, the leaders were asked to reflect on high school and college experiences that led to their development as leaders. The study included a focus on differences in experiences of male and female leaders. Developmental influences such as family, mentors, global experience, and the cocurricular activities engaged in during high school and college were explored. Title IX had no impact on increased opportunities for women in this group of …

Doctoral Dissertations
This study was conducted to determine whether a statistically significant relationship exists between the leadership styles of principals and teacher morale in the public secondary schools of north Louisiana, as perceived by teachers. The Ohio State studies and Getzels and Guba's Social Systems Model for educational organizations provided the theoretical framework for this study. Selected demographic variables of gender of the teacher, years of teaching experience, and race of the teacher were considered in this study. Information on teacher morale was collected from teachers in 14 randomly selected schools of north Louisiana. Data were obtained concerning teacher morale using the …

Bridging The Gulf (New Haven, Ct), C. William Pollard
Bridging The Gulf (New Haven, Ct), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
Delivered at the Yale Berkeley Seminar (hosted by Berkeley Divinity School at Yale) in New Haven, CT, this speech asks how Christians might bridge the gulf between work and faith (or God and profit). Pollard posits that the link between the two is to be found in people, all of whom are made in the image of God. In this framework, the corporate firm may be construed as an institution of moral formation.

Leadership Attitudes And Job Satisfaction In Physical Therapy Clinical Education, Elizabeth Anne Weekley Thompson
Legacy ETDs
The need for examination of leadership and job satisfaction in physical therapy clinical education created the following research problem: is there a relationship between leadership attitudes, age, race, sex, entry level degree, highest educational degree, cumulative years of patient care and clinical teaching, cumulative years as an Academic or Center Coordinator, cumulative years of clinical practice, and job satisfaction for the Academic and Center Coordinators of Clinical Education? The Leadership Opinion Questionnaire, Index of Job Satisfaction, and demographic data sheets were mailed to the Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education at all accredited physical therapy academic programs in the United States, …
Leadership For Diversity: Effectively Managing For A Transformation, Adrian K. Haugabrook
Leadership For Diversity: Effectively Managing For A Transformation, Adrian K. Haugabrook
Trotter Review
Diversity has become a contentious theme woven throughout many different aspects of higher education. Multiculturalism, ethnic studies, women's studies, curriculum reform, strategies for increasing access and opportunity to the under-represented and under-served and improving campus climate have all been vehicles to promote and further diversity initiatives. Diversity stands to challenge much of what has been the traditional views of higher education. The efforts to promote multiculturalism and diversity have caused the academy and the enterprise of higher learning to introspectively examine and reexamine its values, beliefs and relationships to a much larger society. American higher education now sees itself in …
African-American Female College Presidents And Leadership Styles, Runae Edwards Wilson
African-American Female College Presidents And Leadership Styles, Runae Edwards Wilson
Trotter Review
The leadership characteristics of African-American female college and university presidents have rarely been studied. The lack of research in this area is due, in part, to the absence of African-American females in leadership positions at four year higher education institutions. A contributing factor to the shortage of African-American female top level administrators is the "double whammy," or belonging to two groups that are discriminated against, African-Americans and females. The wage gap, institutional kinship, the old boy system, and role prejudice (a preconceived preference for specific behavior by the visibly identifiable group) are factors that have proved prohibitive to the ascension …

Campus Safety Directors: A Leadership Frame Analysis, Ross A. Wolf
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This study is based on leadership frame theory as developed by Drs. Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal who merged several different schools of theory into four different frames: structural, human resource, political, and symbolic. In July, 1998 the Leadership Orientation (Self) survey, developed by Bolman and Deal (1990a) was distributed to 343 campus safety directors at American public four-year postsecondary institutions. A return of 190 (55.4%) useable survey instruments was obtained in this study.
The utilization of leadership frames by campus safety directors was examined as well as the relationship between frame usage and age, education level, length of time …
