The research focused on the identification of entry-level competencies needed by Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates who will begin employment in acute healthcare agencies in the next 10 years in Tennessee. The purpose of the study was to gain increased awareness of the competencies needed by graduates of BSN programs in Tennessee in order to meet the demands of the acute healthcare agencies, in light of present and anticipated changes in the healthcare delivery system. The purpose of this project was to create a Personalized Education Plan and Portfolio system to support secondary students to acquire the skills necessary to ensure employment in South Kitsap High School Port Orchard, Washington. To accomplish this purpose, current research and information related to Personalized Education Plans and Portfolios were reviewed. Additionally, career pathways were established, personal data, resume, individual career planning portfolio, and career goals inventory review worksheets were adapted and developed.

This project investigated literature related to the developmental concerns of middle school youth and the use of bibliotherapy. The purpose of this investigation was to gain a theoretical understanding of these developmental concerns and the related use of bibliotherapy as well as to discover instructional strategies for the use of bibliotherapy in the middle school classroom. The product of this investigation is a resource guide for the use of bibliotherapy with selected developmental concerns of middle school youth. The purpose of this study was to explore the undergraduate experiences of faculty members at one institution. A review of the literature revealed that there does seem to be a positive relationship between faculty-student interaction and the student's retention at the university level. Students are also more likely to persist if they have become involved in out of class activities. The need to bring these out of class activities in line with the academic mission of the university is clear. Students need to be developed in all aspects of their life.

This study examined how the following factors found in the American college experience predicted college students' acceptance of myths concerning rape: students' gender, personal knowledge of a rape survivor, attitude toward alcohol consumption, actual alcohol consumption, and fraternity/sorority (Greek) membership. Eighty-eight male and 239 female college students completed a demographic survey, the Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance Scale (Payne, 1993), and the Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaire (Brown, Christ, and Goldman, 1987). Results indicate that the college students' actual alcohol consumption rate was not predictive of rape myth acceptance. However, all other factors examined in the study interacted in predicting rape myth acceptance. …

The purpose of this study was to investigate current practices used by clinicians when diagnosing children with AD/HD as well as to explore possible relationships between practices, professional disciplines, opinions, and theoretical leanings.;The study utilized a researcher designed questionnaire mailed to licensed Psychiatrists, Pediatricians, Clinical Psychologists, and Counselors in Virginia. The sample included 274 professionals.;Hypotheses examined relationships between professional discipline and use of assessment methodologies, consultation practices, and classification system preferences, as well as relationships between opinions about classification and assessment of AD/HD and practitioners' opinions about assessment practices.;It was found that physical examination was the only variable with any …

The purpose of this study was to investigate conflict in educational and career decision-making of gifted adolescents who had attended a summer residential program in science and technology. The sample consisted of 147 gifted and talented young men and women who attended the Virginia Governor's School in Science and Technology in either 1990 or 1995. Subjects completed the Minnesota Importance Questionnaire (MIQ) as a measure of work needs and values, and an investigator-designed questionnaire that probed the path of their career decision-making. The study examined the effects of integrating a cognitive-developmental approach with professional ethics training on the moral and conceptual development, self-presentation styles, and ethical decision-making skills of graduate counseling students. The sample was comprised of students who enrolled in counseling courses at the College of William and Mary. The ethics intervention group was compared to two groups; one group who received the traditionally taught ethics course, and one group who had not taken the ethics course at William and Mary. African American Students On A Predominantly White Campus: Stressful Experiences And Coping Strategies, Katherine Townsend

Stressful experiences and coping strategies were examined in African American college students at a predominantly white institution. The Ways of Coping-Revised and the Survey of Recent Life Experiences were mailed to all full-time African American students both on and off campus. The results indicated that African American students are not more likely to experience high stress; that stress level does not predetermine coping strategy and that academic class standing does not influence stress level. However, females are likely to experience more stress due to the pressures of time than males. Furthermore, Wishful Thinking was preferred by students who encounter high …
