A Comparison Of Teachers' Marks In One-Room & Two-Room Schools With Those In The Seventh, Eighth & Ninth Grades In Larger Schools, Orbrie Morris Aug 1935

A Comparison Of Teachers' Marks In One-Room & Two-Room Schools With Those In The Seventh, Eighth & Ninth Grades In Larger Schools, Orbrie Morris

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In this study the records examined showed that the per capita cost of instruction in the one-room and the two-room schools varied from three to six times that of the larger schools. The one-room school is the most expensive means of education, yet it offers far fewer advantages and opportunities. The decline in the number of these schools has been in progress for a number of years. This has been true in the rural sections that have a larger number of improved roads. The lack of sufficient roads has seemed to be the greatest obstacle in the consolidation of schools. …

The Status Of Handwriting Instruction And The Qualifications Of Teachers Of Handwriting In The Elementary And Secondary Schools Of Kentucky, Robert Ashby

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The major reason for this survey was to secure definite facts and opinions from superintendents, principals and teachers in elementary and secondary schools on the subject of handwriting. The information gathered gives conclusive evidence that these groups recognize the need for more and better training in this fundamental subject.

The aim of the writer was to determine:

  1. The extent to which outlined courses of study in handwriting are followed.
  2. The number of special instructors in handwriting, whether part- or full-time and other subjects they teach.
  3. Whether handwriting is taught incidentally with other subjects with no formal lessons, or as a …

Analysis Of Errors Made By 717 Collge Students In Arithmetic, O.D. Barnes Aug 1935

Analysis Of Errors Made By 717 Collge Students In Arithmetic, O.D. Barnes

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

During the greater part of the elementary-school training of the average American child he receives a large amount of instruction and drill in arithmetic. In the high school he suddenly drops arithmetic except as he maintains practices in courses of science or high school mathematics and except as the transactions of every day life involve arithmetic. In college the individual may suddenly find that the amount of arithmetical knowledge required is not small as in physics, chemistry or certain commercial courses. Evidence exists to indicate that students doing poor work in these courses are often found deficient in arithmetic.

A Comparative Study Of The New-Type & Old-Type Assignment, Mary Tanner Aug 1935

A Comparative Study Of The New-Type & Old-Type Assignment, Mary Tanner

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The assignment is the teacher's one best chance of stimulating children with a desire for the work that is to follow. For this reason it should be carefully and methodically given and should be definite and clear. Study increases in intelligence somewhat in the degree that the main or salient features of the material to be studied are emphasized in the assignments.
