This investigation examined the relationship between nocturnal sleep patterns and behaviors in the classroom of seventy-four girls and fifty-nine boys from second-, third-, and fourth-grades attending five urban public schools in Norfolk, Virginia.

The dependent variables were the classroom behavior that was subdivided into five personality areas for objective assessment of the student's adjustment areas labeled self, social, school, home, and physical. The objective assessment was observed and documented on a seventy-eight item questionnaire by their primary classroom teachers who were familiar with the subjects behavior. The purpose of this research was to study the process of change from traditional teaching practices to developmentally appropriate practices (DAP), following training. The population for this study consists of kindergarten and first grade teachers, in urban elementary school comprised of student at-risk for school failure. Quantitative and qualitative research methodologies were utilized. The quantitative measures provide evidence of the degree of change made by teachers and render a context for the qualitative findings. This study investigated whether metacognitive skills training would have any effect on the comprehension of southeastern, urban students in a high school compensatory reading laboratory. The pre-experimental one-group design was used for subjects in an eighth and a ninth grade class. Instruments used in data collection for pretest/posttest analysis were the Metacomprehension Strategy Index and the Plasment Reading Achievement Lab Test. This study was conducted to determine the processes and strategies selected middle school students use during the solving of non-routine mathematics problems. Qualitative research methods were used to identify the cognitive and metacognitive skills and processes used in problem solving and to determine the affective influences on the problem solving process.

This study was designed to secure plausible framework for Taiwanese elementary teachers to enhance their teaching technique in science. Two major tasks were accomplished. First, Strategies and Components (SC) embraced in industrial arts projects and science activities were identified by reviewing literatures. This study examined computer anxiety and its relationship to four areas: computer literacy training, relaxation exercises, achievement and the personality variable "need for cognition." Subjects were college students in a semester long computer literacy course that was part of a teacher preparation program. Computer anxiety was measured using the Computer Anxiety Index (CAIN). The CAIN was taken by students at three times in the semester, at the beginning of the course, after six weeks, and at the end of the course. The purpose of this study was to identify valid, reliable, and discriminating performance evaluation items for district level curriculum administrators;A 54-item evaluation questionnaire was created based on a review of literature that included the roles of curriculum administrators and the characteristics of effective school districts. The difficulty level of college courses has been identified as a value which varies across courses. A sample of fifty (50) introductory-level college courses was selected and four different measures of course difficulty, (1) perceived difficulty, (2) perceived amount of work, (3) average grade awarded, and (4) average ACT composite of enrolled students, were calculated for each course. The difficulty estimates were examined for consistency for each measure individually, over time, and in comparison with the others. The purpose of this research was to investigate the potential utilization of adventure education programs to provide an effective and innovative alternative for enhancing the college undergraduate experience. Initial research consisted of performing an indepth study of higher education's curriculum reform literature and studies and literature on adventure education programs. Specific components of the curriculum reform literature regarding character development were then correlated with attributes discovered in the adventure education literature. The purpose of this study was to determine whether computer assisted instruction of mathematics produces significantly greater improvement in mathematics performance of low achieving ninth grade students than teaching mathematics skills without computer assisted instruction.;The sample consisted of four classes (N = 46) of ninth grade students who had registered for the course "Mathematics Nine," and whose eighth grade ITBS scores fell between the 1st and 30th national percentile. This study describes differential student perceptions towards Social Studies in a high school classroom. A case study approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data gathering techniques, was used to collect data by seeking individual students' perceptions of the classroom environment, the teacher, classroom instruction and the Social Studies subject content. Social Studies education in Western Australia has been guided by the Social Studies K-10 Syllabus which has been implemented for almost 10 years.
