Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The three conjectures which formed the basis for this study were: (1) People who have more authority and responsibility in a setting tend to see the setting more positively. (2) Perceptions of the classroom social climate may be influenced by factors involving the time class is offered, location of class, and gender of students. (3) Students choose to participate in learning activities when they feel comfortable and challenged within the classroom and in return have lower absentee rates and receive higher course grades; The population selected for the study were 25 sections of the course Introduction to Computer Literacy, which ...

Psychological Type And Preferred Learning Styles Of Institutional Advancement Officers: An Initial Study Using The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator In Three Geographic Areas , Phyllis J. Lepke

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was used to determine the psychological types of 545 institutional advancement officers (alumni administrators, educational fund raisers, public information officers, and senior advancement professionals) who were registered for one district conference of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in 1988, 1989, or 1990. There were 295 respondents from the Northeast (Districts I/II), 155 from the Midwest (District VI), and 95 from the Northwest (District VIII);ENTJ (18.90%) was the most frequent type in the total sample. While the general population is 75 percent Sensing, the advancement sample was 65 percent Intuitives ...

Marketing And Recruiting Efforts Used In Hospitality Education Graduate Programs: Perceptions Of Effectiveness And Influence In Selection Of Graduate Program , Catherine Hemphill Strohbehn

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Two surveys were mailed to administrators and students of 23 identified graduate programs of hospitality education. Response rates of 87% and 47%, respectively, were achieved. A five-point rating scale (5 = very effective, 5 = very important) was used in both surveys;A profile of currently enrolled graduate students and characteristics of graduate programs of hospitality management were identified. Administrators identified the population of graduate students as 53% female, 52% international and 93% master's level. Of the 87 student respondents, 55% were female, 30% were international, and 86% were enrolled in master's programs. Less than half of master's level ...

The Development Of A Mathematical Model For Technology Transfer Potential: A Manufacturing Industry Case , Laode M. Kamaluddin Jan 1991

The Development Of A Mathematical Model For Technology Transfer Potential: A Manufacturing Industry Case , Laode M. Kamaluddin

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A mathematical model was developed to measure the degree of technology in a given country or countries. The model is based on the regression analysis incorporating a taxonomic method to measure the difference of technological development within a group of countries. Simple linear regression analysis was employed to identify the independent variables showing the strongest relationship to the dependent variable. These variables were then used in controlled studies to investigate causal relationships, i.e., to identify the importance of the technological characteristics influencing the technological level. Second, the independent variables most influencing the dependent variable were selected using the all-regression ...

Experimental Evaluation Of The Effectiveness Of A Computer-Assisted Instructional Unit On Sustainable Agriculture , Gaylan George Scofield Jan 1991

Experimental Evaluation Of The Effectiveness Of A Computer-Assisted Instructional Unit On Sustainable Agriculture , Gaylan George Scofield

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The central purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an instructional unit on sustainable agriculture using a computer program as a tool to increase environmental awareness, enhance understanding of environmental problems, and promote the resolution of environmental issues in educational settings. The effectiveness of the unit was measured in students' knowledge of sustainable agriculture and both students' and teachers' ratings of the materials contained within the instructional unit;An experimental pretest-posttest design was used in this study. Sixteen Iowa schools (172 students) with agriculture departments who had expressed an interest in field testing the instructional unit were ...

A Comparative Analysis Of Methods Used In Preparation For Occupational Testing , Donald Lee Cox Jan 1991

A Comparative Analysis Of Methods Used In Preparation For Occupational Testing , Donald Lee Cox

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Acceptable and recognized methods utilized to develop competency and prepare for occupational testing are strongly controlled by certifying agencies. Teachers, law enforcement officers, medical personnel and fire fighters, to name a few, operate under specific guidelines for training requirements to qualify for professional certification. Most certification examinations are competency based tests. What methods of preparation a certifying agency recognizes may severely restrict an individual's option to develop competency.;This research thesis specifically investigates fire fighter certification and methods of preparation to develop competency. Over five-hundred Iowa fire fighter candidates from 1989 to 1991 were studied. Written examination scores were ...

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this study was to develop a turnkey model of a more comprehensive and accurate merit pay plan based on the total systems approach to teacher evaluation. This study reviewed the current incentive pay literature and validated the need, potential format, variables, and procedures for the development and implementation of the plan's algorithms. Finally, this study examined the cost feasibility of the model in terms of teacher compensation using a California school district's financial infrastructure; The review of literature substantiated three overwhelming reasons for the use of teacher performance-based pay plans: (1) to increase recruitment ...

A Philosophical Analysis Of Conceptual Models Of Nursing , Sandra Courtney Sellers

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Behaviorism, in the form of the Ralph Tyler rationale, has prescribed nursing education curriculum development and the direction of nursing educational thought since the 1950s.
