Efficacy Of The Fifa 11+ Injury Prevention Program In Maine High School Soccer, Meg Lander

Honors College

The purpose of this thesis was to assess the efficacy of the FIFA 11+ injury prevention program when used over the course of one soccer season in Maine high school athletics when compared to a standard warm-up approach. Every year, nearly two million injuries are sustained by high school athletes, and the FIFA 11+ program was developed to mitigate the risk of lower body injuries in soccer players. It has been shown to reduce the incidence of injury by one third or more in teenage and older athletes. Participants were randomly allocated into the FIFA 11+ group and the control …

An Analysis Of Citizenship Education In Maine Middle Schools, Tom Adams

Honors College

An essential responsibility of public schooling is to cultivate civic awareness in students and prepare them to participate in a democratic society. Schools have, however, broadly failed this task, a trend the Maine Department of Education has attempted to reverse through policy. The 2019 edition of the MDoE’s Maine Learning Results (“MLR”) standards mandates that middle school social studies teachers implement civic action and service-learning projects (a.k.a. “citizenship education”) to address community needs and foster students’ civic identity. Existing literature suggests that citizenship education improves students’ civic awareness, community engagement, and future voting behavior, but the effectiveness of this new …

Students arrive in classrooms with a variety of skills, interests and needs. For many learners, the typical curriculum—including instructional methods, classroom materials, and assessments of knowledge—may contain barriers to educational participation and achievement. Students who are unable to access print materials face particular challenges. Accessible educational materials reduce barriers and provide rich supports for learning. By using accessible educational materials, educators enable all learners to gain knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for learning.

Exploring Data And Methods To Assess And Understand The Performance Of Ssi States: Learning From The Cases Of Kentucky And Maine, Jaekyung Lee, Walter Mcintire, Theodore Coladarci

University of Maine Office of Research Administration: Grant Reports

This study examined two major questions. Do national and state assessments provide consistent information on the performance of state education systems? What accounts for discrepancies between national and state assessment results if they are found?

Data came from national and state assessments in grade 4 and grade 8 mathematics from 1992 to 1996 in Maine and Kentucky: National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), Kentucky Instructional Results Information System (KIRIS), and Maine Educational Assessment (MEA). Here is a very brief summary of major research findings:

1. NAEP and state assessments reported inconsistent results on the performance level of students in Maine …

Exploring Data And Methods To Assess And Understand The Performance Of Ssi States: Learning From The Cases Of Kentucky And Maine, Jaekyung Lee, Walter Mcintire, Theodore Coladarci

University of Maine Office of Research Administration: Grant Reports

The proposed study will identify and fill the gaps between currently available data and methods and desired ones in assessing and understanding the performance of SSI states. It will address the following research questions:

1. What information is available on the academic performance of a system?
2. What methodological challenges are posed by multi-level, multi-dimensional time-series data such as the NAEP and state assessments in understanding factors affecting system performance?

The researchers will examine these issues in two SSI states, Kentucky and Maine. They will examine whether and/or how the current NAEP and the states' own student assessments can be …

Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project

The Dickey-Lincoln Hydroelectric Dam is a water resources project proposed by the Federal Government (U. S. Army Corps of Engineers). Therefore, in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the Corps of Engineers is required to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) on the project. A federal plan or project such as Dickey-Lincoln should take into account its effect upon man's health, safety, welfare and economic well-being, as well as effects upon the surrounding environment. More importantly, project plans should be evaluated in a "manner calculated to encourage harmony between man and his environment." In other words, project plans or …

Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project

The intention of this report is to present a still picture of the selected area as of the summer of 1966. The emphasis is on empirical relationships. The data contained herein will provide a base for subsequent analysis. Thus little attempt is made to cast the findings of the study in a theoretical framework. Later publications will utilize relevant theory and research to analyze the social and economic changes in an area related to the building of the Dickey and Lincoln School Dams. It is presumed that this particular report and its statistical sup-plement will be of particular interest to …
