La Sabiduría Como Un Proceso Psicológico: Su Desarrollo En Un Contexto Educativo, Gus Gregorutti

Desde el punto de vista histórico la noción de sabiduría transitó desde ser considerada el bien último del hombre a ser vista como un bien privado, siendo actualmente relegada por los conocimientos y descubrimientos científicos de los saberes disciplinarios, que son los que se enseñan en la universidad. Sin embargo, múltiples investigaciones han encontrado que las personas sabias viven más y mejor (Peterson y Seligman, 2004), tienen mayor satisfacción personal, salud física y mejores relaciones familiares (Ardelt, 2000), además de enfrentar mejor la muerte y un mayor desempeño global (Estudillo, 2010). This study presents the dynamic relationship between the different mission statementsand their impact on university’s models. The excessive promotion of theproduction of knowledge, as the central paradigm for higher education, has producedunbalances in universities. Religious affiliated institutions needs to repositionthemself with their characteristics to offering an education that includes allthree existing missions, but adds a fourth one as a way of enriching training. Thisnew mission purpose that centers on the development of wisdom, it is not onlyuseful for religious affiliated universities, but also for all kind of higher educationmodels. This study had the following general goals: a) Map some of the political and social factors that prompted the establishment of two-years Technological Universities in Mexico; b) Describe the main features of the model and how it differs from other models; c) Discuss Neoliberal Human Capital Theory as one of the main theoretical backdrop for expanding this kind of institutions; and finally, d) Assess the model’s strengths and weaknesses. College student’s beliefs, values, and spirituality have become the focus of a major national research project in recent years, conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) housed at University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and sponsored by a substantial grant from the John Templeton Foundation (HERI website). After a pilot survey conducted in 2003, the College Students' Beliefs and Values Survey (CSBV)was administered in the fall 2004 to 112,232 entering freshmen students of 236 colleges and universities in the United States, with a follow up sample of 15,000 of these students in spring 2007. This case study describes how Tecnológico de Monterrey, in northern Mexico, has experienced a qualitative and quantitative increase in its intellectual productivity. In less than ten years, this university has moved from generating few ideas to being one of most distinguished Mexican private universities in the production of knowledge, patents and several research-derived businesses. Moving From A Predominantly Teaching Oriented Culture To A Research Productivity Mission: The Case Of Mexico And The United States, Gus Gregorutti

This study qualitatively analyzes the culture conflicts professors in the United States and Mexico are experiencing with the increasing pressures to produce more research about higher education. The first dataset was collected from 36 faculty members from 12 small and medium sized private, doctorate-granting universities. These universities are located in 11 states across the United States. The remaining data came from 44 faculty members employed at four small and medium sized private, doctoral granting universities in four states across Mexico. Results showed that universities in the US are transitioning from a predominantly teaching college culture to a more research orientation. …

The exponential growth of private higher education in Mexico,especially over the last 30 years, has also raised questions aboutthe level of quality offered by some of the professional orientedgraduate programs. In order to know how these universities handlequality, this paper collected opinions from four academic administratorsinterviewed in three private universities in the State ofNuevo Leon, Mexico. Faculty Development In Instructional Technology: A Multiple Case Study, Robson Moura Marinho

Employing the descriptive multiple case study method, this qualitative study explores the experiences of ten faculty members involved in learning about technology at a Major Pubic University in the United States. Participants shed light on the learning process in instructional technology by sharing their personal experiences, perspectives, ideas and behaviors. This paper summarizes the results of the study, making comparisons with related literature, and then discussing its practical implications and recommendations for faculty development. The findings indicate the need of a more holistic approach to faculty development programs in instructional technology.
