Kuala Lumpur was honored to host the 1998 Commonwealth Games, the second largest game after the Olympics. Inline with this event, the Malaysian Government decided to upgrade the public transportation in the city to be accessible to all, mentioned by the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee. The rate and level of new investment will ensure that improvements in the accessibility of public transport are brought forward more rapidly. Building in accessibility for disabled persons in all new investment is a condition of public money being well spent.
