The study was carried ot to determine the undergraduate students awareness and attitude towards HIV/AIDS prevention. A sample of 1000 students was taken from the Federal University of Technology Owerri. The results show that the students had no deep knowledge of HIV/AIDS, their major source of information is the mass media, many of the students were not taking precautionary measures against HIV/AIDS infection.

The article presents information about the program called "Professors as Writers" at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. The objective of the program is to provide a quiet and comfortable working place for faculty to write. This program was started 15 year back to help the faculty members to write more productively. The organizers of the program invite all college teachers to sign up for the dates and times that suit them at the beginning of the semester. The program sets aside structured time and space for the faculty to write.

Small Schools are schools within schools, autonomous of their district and the larger school building principal in which they reside. They are distinct from one another, focused and committed to equity. They are made up of an interdisciplinary team of teachers that share a few hundred or less students in common for instruction. Giving students an opportunity to engage in the construction industry in their home-town will integrate real-world skills into their study of mathematics and connect their lives to their schools and community, making achievment and graduation more meaningful.

Financial markets in a country are parts of modern economic systems and have definite impacts of its economic performance. However, in an underdeveloped economic structure there can be other targets o hidden activities for them. Such assumptions are provoked under totalitarian economic systems that impose cartel monopolies in a autocratic compradorism that own most of the companies and their stocks. The institutional structure of the prevailing economic system avails negative cost/benefits dealings to continue unaffected as the main profits have to come from other resources, e.g., money laundry. Access to higher education for disabled students is far from a right in Latin America, although some countries, particularly Brazil, are making an effort to improve access and conditions for the disabled. Discrimination starts early, at the elementary-school level. Students are either isolated in special schools, which rarely go beyond the eighth grade, or forced to compete in regular schools, without any tools to help them overcome their disabilities. A majority drop out before high school.

The Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) is a non profit organization developed to accredit government emergency management programs in the 56 U.S. states and territories. This accreditation model is based on the NFPA 1600 Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs. In 2003, the Federal Emergency Management Agency funded EMAP to conduct baseline assessments of each U.S. state and territory to assess their emergency management capabilities. Between January 2003 and December 2004, EMAP conducted baseline assessments of 35 U.S. state and territory emergency management programs. The No Child Left Behind Act [NCLB] mandates testing of all high school students in reading and mathematics by school year 2005-06 and in science by school year 2007-08. Schools are required to make incremental increases in test scores in all students, including minority students, poor children, students with disabilities, and English language learners, setting one hundred percent proficiency as its goal by 2014. Schools that do not make progress in test scores will be subject to punitive and remedial actions.

We report results of a magnetic ressonance imaging (MRI) study of 146 Brazilian children, whose intelligence quotient scored less than 70. 50% of MRI examinations did not exhibit any signal of structural lesion (N group), whereas a focal thinning at the junction of the body and splenium of the corpus callosum; ventricular asymmetry; periventricular leukomalacia; gliosis and arachnoid cysts were among the most frequent findings in the remaining of subjects (L group). Maternal stress and altered blood pre ss u re were the most frequent findings in the pre-natal history of both N and L children. Familial antecedents of mental …

Sociology has a role to play in the development of multiculturalism and, therefore, the facilitation of interreligious dialogue. Multiculturalism does not merely refer to the coexistence of a plurality of cultures but is a social context that encourages the possibilities for harmonious interactions of different cultures. Becoming proficient in a second language may involve several factors that are different from those involved in the first language. One factor that may influence performance in either language is academic aptitude. In this study, responses to statements regarding language abilities in Bahasa Malaysia and English by academically inclined and challenged students were analysed using the Chi-Square technique. The results indicate that while the academically inclined students do not have major difficulties in performance in either of the two languages, the academically challenged students report problems in basic linguistic abilities in the English language but not in Bahasa Malaysia. The historical evolution of education and impact of its inequalities have not been televised. The world is more often exposed to “overcomology” —society’s assertion that oppressed peoples or so-called minorities have overcome past injustices and are now able to access the same educational opportunities as so-called majority groups. This paper provides a Gil Scott-Heron-esque review of the effects of inequalities on this key social institution.

Determining who is eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) has plagued decision-makers for over three decades, leading to both over- and under-identification of eligible children and the disproportionate identification of minority students as disabled. The statutory requirements for finding a child IDEA-eligible appear straightforward: a child must have an enumerated disability that adversely affects educational performance and by reason thereof the child must need special education. Application of these provisions has proven problematic, however, and the authorities are divided as to what constitutes “educational performance,” when is it “adversely affected” by the disability, under what circumstances …
