For the past five years, librarians at Georgetown’s (GU) School of Continuing Studies (SCS) Library have supplemented their synchronous instructional offerings with in-house video tutorials to cater to the School’s growing online and hybrid student population and to scale up information literacy efforts. The pandemic has accelerated this trend, with the SCS librarians increasingly moving away from viewing their video tutorials as primarily stand-alone digital learning objects and conceiving of them rather as a part of carefully planned out LMS-embedded, discipline-specific modules addressing high-stakes information literacy concepts. For graduate students, writing a dissertation can be an isolating experience. In 2018, librarians at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Libraries collaborated with the Graduate School to organize and host the campus’ first Dissertation Prep and Writing Intensive workshop. Inspired by the examples of Simon Fraser University and Concordia University libraries, we aspired to offer a dissertation workshop that would provide writing support to UNC doctoral students at a crucial stage of their academic journey. A southern regional comprehensive university hired four new Reference and Research Librarians. These new librarians had varied experiences with information literacy instruction in academic libraries. Three were recent library school graduates, two were assistants in circulation and technical services, and the other was a part-time reference and instruction librarian. Library instruction to improve information literacy (IL) is often considered essential only for undergraduates. However, students in graduate/professional programs do not always have the requisite skills needed for graduate level study and research, which suggests they may also benefit from library instruction targeted specifically to graduate students. This study used a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness of library instruction for increasing IL skills and/or knowledge among graduate and professional students. In the past, Middle Georgia State College’s assessment of library instruction mainly consisted of post-instruction evaluations in which students answered questions about the class’s usefulness and gave comments. The iSkills assessment is an hour-long, web-based simulation developed by ETS to measure ICT literacy skills of students from grades 10 through adulthood. In this study, the authors will compare the assessment scores of students majoring in teacher education (with junior-year status) at an urban commuter campus (UNLV) and a traditional residential campus (BYU). Controlling for demographic factors and GPA, the authors will focus on curricular elements in the respective teacher education programs that may contribute to the college students' test scores. This year long collaboration between the Honors College and the Library began with an instruction session for Honors College teaching assistants. Our collaboration focused primarily on the student’s first class on research methods. In their Honors 110: Research Methods class, students are introduced to research practices, including the development of research topics, the analysis of sources, and the organization of evidence. The philosophy of information literacy is embedded in all learning environments, but the term information literacy is most prevalent in the context of libraries.
