The focus of this study was to gain an understanding of truancy. Familial factors are frequently blamed for attendance issues, but research shows that the reasons for truancy are oftentimes more complex. The study was conducted using the constructivist paradigm, and key stakeholders were interviewed to discuss their experience with truancy. This study seeks to counter the social narrative that African Americans resist schooling by examining African American post baccalaureate college students that have developed a passion for learning as demonstrated in their persistence and motivations to enter the teaching profession. Racially correlated disparities prevalent in standardized test scores, high school dropout rates and college eligibility remain one of the most pervasive educational dilemmas facing public schools across the nation. African Americans are identified as significantly under performing when compared to the average performance of white students.

The purpose of this study was to reexamine the Goldberg Paradigm and the Gender Role Congruity Theory in the academic setting. The present study was interested in examining the attitudes of both male and female evaluators in the college setting. The presented study also predicted that the self-evaluations of the participants would vary due to the application they evaluated. The study manipulated gender and major (math, business, English literature, and art) as independent variables in the mock applications. Data was collected from undergraduate students. After reading the mock applications, participants would complete a survey.

Early childhood research literature has shown that develpmentally-appropriate practice (DAP) has a multitude of positive effects on young children's development including emotional, social, cognitive, and neurological benefits. When DAP is practiced by teachers, children are engaged in low stress learning activities, their social development is supported, and their classroom envirornment supports their cognitive and brain development. DAP provides an environment that supports all children academically.

Education about the current threats to ground water resources is of great importance to residents of the Morongo Basin. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the role phonological awareness plays in the second language (L2) classroom among English as Second Language (ESL) learners. In order to better understand the reasons behind second language (L2) student's phonological improvements, phonological awareness was tested to see what affect, if any, it had on student's intelligible speech. Six English as Second Language (ESL) college students participated in the study in which they provided three audio recordings of their English speech over the course of ten weeks.

The purpose of this study was to propose why it makes sense to practice child welfare social work in the public school system (kindergarten through 12th grade), and to evaluate why there is a need for child protective services (CPS) child welfare social workers to be active and out-stationed in the public school setting. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility that students who spend more time in a Montessori environment exhibit higher levels of self-efficacy than children who have more of their school career exposed to traditional education methods. This study used a nonprobability convenience sampling where participants were selected using a volunteer process. The sample included a total of 36 children ranging from 7th to 12th grade who volunteered to participate in this study.

This project examines the use of technology as a vehicle for bringing training and help to migrant agricultural workers, specifically women and their children in the rural areas of Coachella Valley. The project observes use of technology by governmental and nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life style of women who are among the poorest social class in rural United States. To gather the needed data for this project, two primary methods of collection were used: participant observant and interview surveys. In this project the groups, organizations and their members were used as the principal participant/respondents.

This study focuses on two prospective teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) who were enrolled in a master's program and were being tutored as they prepared to write a scholarly review of literature. The methodology involved videotaping four tutoring sessions, each tutor was assigned to participate in two tutoring sessions each with the same participant. The videotaped data was then transcribed and analyzed for significant scaffolding occurrences that may have promoted successful transfer of responsibility facilitating autonomy for the learner.
