Preschool Children's Understanding Of Nature And Environmental Stewardship, Maureen D. King
Masters Theses
Exposure to nature is important for children’s development and the future of the natural world. Children’s time spent outdoors has the potential to increase biophilia, one’s connection with nature, impacting their attitude towards nature and nature conservation over their lifetime. Environmental stewardship begins with an understanding of nature and how one can protect the environment around them. This study sought to explore children’s understandings of nature and stewardship by engaging a small group of preschoolers (n = 6) in photographing nature in their school’s outdoor playspace and asking prompting questions using the photographs in a semi-structured follow-up interview. Photographs …

The objective of this thesis is to explore the potential of these common artifacts to yield important information about these Backbone households. Specifically, my questions include: when did these households adopt canning and who were they?
The intentional decision to include …

A Relationship Between Vitamin B12, Folate, Ascorbic Acid, And Mercury Metabolism, Nancy Elizabeth Zorn
Masters Theses
The effect of megadoses of vitamin B12, folate, and vitamin C on the in vivo methylation of mercuric chloride was studied in guinea pigs. The incorporation of high levels of vitamin B12, folate, and vitamin C resulted in a decrease in both inorganic mercury and methylmercury concentrations in all tissues except the lung and heart compared to controls. However, percent methylmercury levels tended to increase with vitamin treatments.
The addition of megadoses of vitamin B12 fed either singularly or in combination with the other vitamins resulted in increased methylmercury concentrations in the liver, spleen, and …
