An Exploration Of Identification Of Leadership For Gifted Students, Christine Estelle Phillips

Leadership has been designated a talent area in federal and state definitions of gifted students who require differentiated programs since the Marland Report came out in 1972, yet it remains the least discussed of the curricular areas for gifted students. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions and attitudes of administrators of gifted programs in Colorado and Idaho concerning identifying students gifted in leadership. Public K-12 school districts in Colorado and Idaho were surveyed using a researcher-created survey including questions targeting attitudes and twelve questions specific to leadership traits. Author's abstract:The curriculum studies field is marked by two significant concerns-the desire for a complex conversation about connection and diversity and the drive to address structural inequities. Drawing from the rich theoretical field of post positivist realism and in the intellectually rigorous tradition of curriculum studies, this inquiry traces the socioemotional and pedagogical development of five educators before and after a brief professional development experience abroad as they explored what a pedagogy of hope (Freire, 2004; Hooks, 2003) might look like. Author's abstract: Schools have spent much time and money providing teachers and students access to the Internet. As access has become commonplace in schools, teachers are increasingly encouraged to incorporate Internet resources in their classroom. Teachers' use of the Internet has increased in recent years; however, their use remains limited. This mixed methods study sought to understand why some teachers eagerly integrated the Internet in the classroom while others were hesitant to use the Internet with their students.
