Successful Integration Of Internet Technology In The K-12 Classroom: Trends Perceptions And Successful Practices., Catherine Anne Edwards

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In 1994, the Federal Government made a commitment to link all classrooms, libraries, businesses, and industries to the information highway by the year 2000. President Clinton mandated that all classrooms in America be connected to the Internet by the year 2000. While many say this commitment and mandate have successfully occurred, there is still concern and questions about what successful integration of the Internet looks like and what specific practices can tap the bountiful resources available on the Internet. School systems have spent billions of dollars investing in hardware, software, and connection to the World Wide Web. Stakeholders demand accountability …

To Group Or Not To Group: A Qualitative Study Of Middle School Principals' Decision Making Processes Concerning Ability Level Grouping., Linda B. Stroud May 2002

To Group Or Not To Group: A Qualitative Study Of Middle School Principals' Decision Making Processes Concerning Ability Level Grouping., Linda B. Stroud

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The topic of ability level grouping of students for instructional purposes is one of the most studied areas of research in educational literature. However, because of the inconclusive findings in the literature, no clear answer to the question of whether homogeneous or heterogeneous grouping is in the best educational interest of students has been established. Middle level administrators play a particularly important role in the debate concerning the use of ability grouping in individual schools because the pattern for future educational tracks of students is established at the middle level. An exploration of the factors that affect the decision making …

Coherence And Historical Understanding In Children's Biography And Historical Nonfiction Literature: A Content Analysis Of Selected Orbis Pictus Books, Sandip Leeanne Wilson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to investigate a selection of children's historical nonfiction literature for evidence of coherence. Strategies To Ease The Negative Effects Of Mobility On Academic Achievement., D.Kaye Reed Thomas Aug 2001

Strategies To Ease The Negative Effects Of Mobility On Academic Achievement., D.Kaye Reed Thomas

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Mobility, the movement of students from school to school, affects students, classrooms, schools, and systems. Extensive research has been conducted on the relationship between mobility and student academics. Although the research has not determined mobility is the cause of lower academic scores, it is certainly a contributing factor. Most students with high mobility rates also have difficulty in math, reading, or language. Teachers of classrooms with these students tend to "flatten" the curriculum by reviewing more than usual. Long-range planning for these students can be difficult. Schools and systems may plan programs for students who have moved on by the …

Whole-School Elementary Literacy Programs: Variation In Implementation And The Relationship To Student Literacy Achievement, Lucie C. Boucher Jan 2000

Whole-School Elementary Literacy Programs: Variation In Implementation And The Relationship To Student Literacy Achievement, Lucie C. Boucher

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research suggests that whole-school early literacy program reform should take precedence in our schools (Pikulski, 1994; Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 1998). Discovering how the components of a whole-school early literacy program interact to affect student achievement is the next step in planning for program development. Studies focusing on effective schools have not yet provided information about the impact of a whole-school program on student achievement or about the contribution of each the individual components to the whole program (Anderson & Pellicer, 1998; Creemers, 1997; Creemers & Reezigt, 1996; Wong & Meyer, 1997). However, descriptive studies spanning several decades conducted in …

Superintendents from 36 public school systems were identified to receive questionnaires and …
