From Too Little To Too Much: Sorting Through The Online Resource Environment In Education, Nathalie Carrier, Jacqueline Sohn, Limin Jao, Saira Shah
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
The Internet is considered to be one of the most important mechanisms for sharing research (Chavkin & Chavkin, 2008), raising questions about the scope and variety of research-based education resources available online. Whereas years ago, the challenge for educators was to find relevant research information for practice, this challenge has shifted to one of sorting through the “infoglut” (Edmunds & Morris, 2000), or the abundance of information claiming to be grounded in research, and being able to judge which resources are most valuable and reliable. Drawing on scholarship that seeks to mobilize evidence between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers (Levin, 2011), …
Examining The Relationship Between Math Scores And English Language Proficiency, Denfield L. Henry, Beate Baltes, Nicolae Nistor
Examining The Relationship Between Math Scores And English Language Proficiency, Denfield L. Henry, Beate Baltes, Nicolae Nistor
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
Multiple studies propose that English proficiency dictates English language learners’ (ELLs) performances on mathematics assessments. The current study investigates the predictive power of English proficiency on mathematics scores, while controlling for gender, socioeconomic status (SES), and grade level among ELLs at a south Florida elementary school. Krashen’s theory of comprehensible input as a precursor to second language acquisition provides the framework for this quantitative, correlation study. Mathematics scores from the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test for Grade 3–5 ELLs (N = 177) were analyzed using multiple linear regression. Analysis reveals English proficiency as a statistically significant predictor of mathematics scores. …

Evaluation Of National Institute Of Learning Development (Nild) And Discovery Educational Therapy Program, Prince Christopher Frimpong
2010-2016 Archived Posters
This qualitative study evaluated the NILD and Discovery Therapy Educational Program at one Christian school, for effectiveness and academic progress of students with learning disabilities (LD) who receive the therapy. This study leads to positive social change as leaders of Christian schools and parents see the need and provide interventional programs for LD students.
A Mixed Methods Evaluation Of New Teacher Support Systems At An Urban Elementary, Dracaena Mosley
A Mixed Methods Evaluation Of New Teacher Support Systems At An Urban Elementary, Dracaena Mosley
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
An urban elementary school in the northeast was lacking formal methods to evaluate its
support systems for teachers. This formative evaluation of the school's support systems for new teachers and staff was conducted using a mixed methods design to address the problem. The purpose of this evaluation was to determine the indicators of progress or need of improvement of effectively supporting teachers through mentoring, professional development, and collaboration. The theoretical framework for the study was Kirkpatrick's 4 levels of evaluation: reaction, learning, behavior, and results. The evaluation was also guided by questions about the extent, perceived effectiveness, strengths, and weaknesses …
Evaluation Of The State Of Georgia's School Instructional Extension Program (Siep) At One Middle School, Taiesha Marie Adams
Evaluation Of The State Of Georgia's School Instructional Extension Program (Siep) At One Middle School, Taiesha Marie Adams
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This study examined the implementation of the State of Georgia's School Instructional Extension Program (SIEP) at one middle school in a rural school district. SIEP was adopted in this district in an effort to improve outcomes for students who demonstrate deficiencies in core-academic subjects. For the past 2 years, SIEP has been used at this study site to address low academic performance in the area of mathematics. However, to date, school leaders have not developed a system to evaluate the efficacy of the program. The purpose of this project study was to conduct a comprehensive program evaluation that addressed the …
Students' Perceptions And Experiences Of A Diversity And Inclusion Training Program At A Community College, Norma I. Corral-Chandler
Students' Perceptions And Experiences Of A Diversity And Inclusion Training Program At A Community College, Norma I. Corral-Chandler
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A community college developed a diversity and inclusion training program, Maximizing Our Strengths as an Inclusive Community (MOSAIC), to address the lack of diversity training for students and staff. However, the program had not been evaluated. The purpose of this study was to learn about students' perceptions and experiences of the MOSAIC program. Guided by theories of constructivism and components of critical race theory related to critical studies in Whiteness, social identity theory, and best practices for diversity and inclusion training, this study explored how students described the effectiveness of the program. Interview data for this responsive program evaluation using …
The Evaluation Of An Environmental Leadership And Service Program's Effectiveness, Roberta Harlow Mcfarland
The Evaluation Of An Environmental Leadership And Service Program's Effectiveness, Roberta Harlow Mcfarland
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
According to a recent report from the National Center for Educational Statistics, approximately 20% of the United States' high-school aged population is at risk of dropping out of high school, an outcome that strongly limits participation in economic and educational opportunities. The importance of earning a high school diploma has increased many local districts' efforts to close graduation gaps across the student population. Accordingly, this study evaluated a recuperative environmental leadership and service (EL&S) program in a northwestern local district to ascertain its effectiveness in providing at-risk students the personal and academic support required for high school graduation. Following the …
Teachers' Perceptions Of Becoming A Professional Learning Community, Kathleen Theresa Kohl
Teachers' Perceptions Of Becoming A Professional Learning Community, Kathleen Theresa Kohl
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Professional learning communities (PLCs) have become popular in schools to help improve student achievement. One local middle school implemented a PLC community, yet experienced problems with sustaining the concept and moving forward. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the current state of the PLC at the middle school under study, how it functioned, and possible areas for improvement. The theoretical framework revolved around constructivist learning and the dimensions of a quality PLC: collaboration, shared mission, values, vision, and goals. Research questions addressed teachers' perceptions of PLC progress and differences in levels of development scores among the 5 …
