This paper reveals that higher vocational education (HVE) is playing a key role for establishing a lifelong learning system in China. Discussions are based on the theory that higher education is at the core to build a lifelong learning system with a focus on the concept of vertical integration.

Twenty-two medical students and forty-one clinical faculty speculated on the results of an unusual study. Their speculations resulted in fourteen factors and six propositions that describe the nature of highly effective clinical teaching.

This study focuses upon a sometimes invisible subset of adult learners: higher education staff members. The participant interviews are part of a pilot study intended to create increased understanding of how these unique adult learners experience their environments.
