Student Test Scores And Their Relationship To Order Of Test Completion, Ron Deiter, Vern Pierce Mar 1991

Student Test Scores And Their Relationship To Order Of Test Completion, Ron Deiter, Vern Pierce

Economics Publications

A number of different instruments are typically used by instructors to assess an undergraduate student's level of understanding of course subject matter and, ultimately, to assign each student a course grade. While homework assignments, quizzes, term papers, group projects, class participation and oral reports are all commonly used, generally, a major part of a student's course grade is based on classroom performance on exams. Many instructors assume or like to believe that the major, if not the only. determinant of student scores on exams is student knowledge and understanding of the material. However, Marotz and Young (1988) suggest ...

Developing And Testing The Feasibility Of A Microcomputer System For Assisting In Evaluation And Supervision For Principal Performance Improvement , Rosemary D. Noel

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study was conducted to test the feasibility of modifying the CATE/S microcomputer system from a teacher evaluation tool to one to assist in the evaluation and improvement of principal performance. The development of a bank of professional growth plans to be generated from the modified, software package and a substantive review of the literature were also contributions to the field of knowledge. Two circumstances that served as motivational factors initiating this study were the need for increased accountability, resulting in a quest for improved principal performance evaluation, and the research finding that effective instruction is strongly related to ...

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study was designed to secure plausible framework for Taiwanese elementary teachers to enhance their teaching technique in science. Two major tasks were accomplished. First, Strategies and Components (SC) embraced in industrial arts projects and science activities were identified by reviewing literatures. Then, six categories were adopted to distinguish these traits. Second, the elementary teachers' perspectives, in terms of importance, feasibility, and adoptability, toward these SC(s) were investigated. The second task was accomplished using self-administered questionnaire survey method to collect data related perspectives toward these SC(s). Economic Hardship, Family Relationships, And Adolescent Distress , Camilla Siu-Na Ho

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Adolescence is a period characterized by multiple life changes. Biological, psychological, and social factors interact at an accelerated rate to shape the adolescent's development. Additional life stress during this time is especially detrimental to the psychological well-being of a person. This dissertation aims to (1) examine existing literature on the relationship between life changes and stress during adolescence, (2) examine existing literature on the ...

Mother-Father-Child Play: Investigations Of Preschoolers' Home Play Behavior, Parental Involvement And Home Environment , Chittinun Tejagupta

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Relatively few studies have documented the nature of mother-father-child play interactions at home, especially during the preschool years. Based on the ecological approach regarding the relationship of play behavior as a function of the playing child and the play environment (Darvill, 1982), this study investigated the play of 48 3- and 5-year-old boys and girls with their parents in their home. The mother-father-child play was videotaped for 10 minutes and later coded for child's social-cognitive play behaviors and the parental involvement of mother and father. Quality of home environment was measured using the HOME Inventory scale (preschool version);Differences ...

Stress relief through recreation? The concept may not be new but it did form the basis of a new program at ISU's College of Veterinary Medicine. The Recreation & Stress Relief (RSR) program was developed by Dan Drahos who brought the idea from his undergraduate experiences with the ISU Recreation Services and the National Intramural Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA). While Attending several national and regional NIRSA conferences and spending much time with the "special populations" and "stress management" workshops, the realization of a need for a program such as RSR turned into a proposal to SCAVMA.

A Cluster Analytic Approach To Interest Measurement With The Act Interest Inventory , David Clay Barnett Jan 1991

A Cluster Analytic Approach To Interest Measurement With The Act Interest Inventory , David Clay Barnett

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The study attempted to identify, replicate and validate subgroups of high school students based on similarity of their responses to items of the ACT-Interest Inventory. A data set collected in 1973 and in 1976-1979 by the American College Testing Program/Institute for Demographic and Economic Studies was used for this study. Random samples were selected and clustered with two hierarchical cluster analysis techniques (Ward's method and average linkage method). Average linkage did not yield a meaningful structure. A six-group solution was selected from Ward's method results for further study. Evidence for replicability of the clusters across samples was ...

A Comparison Study Of The Effectiveness Of A Strategic, Short-Term School Counseling Model And Traditional Counseling Models As Used By Elementary School Counselors , Mary Alice Bruce Christensen Jan 1991

A Comparison Study Of The Effectiveness Of A Strategic, Short-Term School Counseling Model And Traditional Counseling Models As Used By Elementary School Counselors , Mary Alice Bruce Christensen

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The major purpose of the study was to compare the effectiveness of the Strategic, Short-Term School Counseling (SSTSC) model and traditional counseling models, as used by trained counselors in the elementary school. Drawing upon the work of family therapists Watzlawick, Weakland, and Fisch (1974) and de Shazer (1985), the researcher specifically proposed the 4-step SSTSC model which utilizes elements of student developmental levels and maximizes inherent capabilities of the school system. Following one individual counseling session, treatment groups were compared. It appeared that students in the SSTSC group improved at a faster rate than did students in the traditional group ...
