The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of the use of music in the form of a song with instructional lyrics on the attention of children with developmental disabilities. The study took place in a self-contained special education classroom, which served third through fifth grade students. A single-subject with ABA or reversal design (Creswell, 2012) was utilized, including five days of baseline, 15 days of intervention, and five days of reversal data collection. The main focus of the project was to develop resources that will use music as a tool to improve literacy and support learning in third grade self contained classrooms. Research provides strong data connecting the relationship of music to academic achievement, language arts and improved test scores. New innovations in scheduling at the secondary level in many high schools have resulted in "block scheduling", whereby, students meet in classes for a longer time period than the norm (50-55 minutes). In the area of performing arts, this expanded schedule presents new opportunities for the inclusion of musicianship skills. This study will provide guidelines and resources for strengthening the musicianship of students currently participating in block scheduling within their performance classes. Research finding of factors which facilitate beginning reading were investigated. Results were used to form the foundation for developing an approach that integrated music with beginning reading instruction for first grade students. A handbook was produced to enhance the development of reading skills through song-reading techniques. Materials such as song charts, overhead transparencies, sentence strips, student and class song books, language experience songs, mini-books, big books, cassette tapes, records, and videos were used to motivate beginning readers through increased interest and excitement for learning .

This paper presents a survey of the scheduling, staffing and housing procedures for elementary instrumental music in selected large suburban school districts surrounding the City of Seattle, Washington. Upon comparison with other available studies and a similar survey of the Highline Public Schools, basic recommendations were made for the implementation of three alternate plans for a comprehensive elementary instrumental music program in the Highline Public Schools. The preferred recommended plan involves simultaneously team teaching with instrumental and vocal music specialists.

The technique, range, intonation, and rhythm problems of average high school musicians are taken into special consideration. There is considerable evidence to indicate that the Fraternity of Freemasonry exerted creative impulses to some of the music of Wolfgang Mozart, subsequent to 1784. This study shows that Mozart, by virtue of his membership in the Order, was sufficiently impressed with benevolences and spiritual teachings of Freemasonry to symbolically reflect the ritual of the Order in an artistic manner. To support this contention a review of Freemasonry in the Eighteenth Century, an analysis of Mozart's association with Masonry, an inquiry into the relation of Freemasonry and the existing religious order, and an overview of Mozart's Masonic compositions are presented.
