A Phenomenological Study Of 21-29-Year-Old Teachers' Perceptions Of Using Twitter For Professional Development, John Woodring

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This transcendental phenomenological study explored the perception of 21-29-year-old public school teachers’ use of Twitter in their professional development. However, while teachers in the 21-29-year-old age range were part of the demographic dominating online social media use in general, they did not use online social networks for professional development purposes as much as their older peers (Carpenter & Krutka, 2014; Visser et al., 2014). While professional development was important for improving teachers’ classroom performance and student achievement (Coldwell, 2017), traditional professional development often was ineffective in changing classroom instruction (Carpenter & Krutka, 2014; Dingle, Brownwell, Leko, Boardman, & Haager, 2011; …

The Intersection Of Job Satisfaction, Job Dissatisfaction, And Motivation Of Instructional Designers In Online Higher Education: A Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Laura Elaine Dykstra

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Online education has become a significant part of the strategic growth and health of institutions of higher education (HEIs) today. Instructional designers support the strategic mission of the HEI, and while research to date has looked extensively at the role of the instructional designer in higher education, no research has looked at the experience of the instructional designer focusing specifically on the feelings and intersection of job satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and motivation. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study is to understand the experiences related to job satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and motivation for instructional designers working in online higher education. The theoretical …

A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of Faculty Use Of Universal Design For Learning That Includes Multiple Means Of Expression While Teaching Online General Education Courses At A Technical College, Monique Stephaun Baucham Jul 2020

A Transcendental Phenomenological Study Of Faculty Use Of Universal Design For Learning That Includes Multiple Means Of Expression While Teaching Online General Education Courses At A Technical College, Monique Stephaun Baucham

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Little is known about the perceived benefits of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to help college students with learning disabilities. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to study general education faculty members’ perceptions on student achievement when faculty employ multiple means of expression, the third principle of UDL, which is to vary the means of assessment at a technical college in southeastern Georgia. The transcendental phenomenological studies human experiences. The theoretical framework used to guide this study includes two adult learning theories: Knowles’s (1998) andragogy and Mezirow’s (1996) self-directed and transformational learning. Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development was …

Exploring How Preschoolers Use Ipads To Develop Phonemic Awareness: A Case Study, Patricia Pounds Scalf

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to describe how iPads may be used to develop phonemic awareness as part of emergent literacy skills acquisition for six preschool students at Little Lambs Christian Preschool (pseudonym) in central Tennessee. The theories guiding this study were the social constructivist theory, as it related to the use of play for the development of new skills, and the emergent literacy theory, which provided a framework for identifying and defining the skills children need to develop before learning to read. The following was the proposed central research question: How does the use of iPads …

Beginning Teachers' Technology Integration Self-Efficacy Based On Level Of Technology Infusion In The Undergraduate Program, Reeshemah Tamar Johnson

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Four-year educator preparation programs in North Carolina are tasked with producing teachers capable of effectively integrating technology in the curriculum. The state created The Digital Learning Competencies for Classroom Teachers as the guidelines for what teachers are expected to know and be able to do with regards to digital technology integration. The purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship existed between beginning teacher self-efficacy with technology integration and the extent to which technology was infused in their undergraduate four-year educator preparation programs (stand-alone course versus technology infusion across the undergraduate curriculum versus a combination of both a …

Self-Efficacy Score Differences Between Supported, Unsupported, Departmentalized And Non-Departmentalized Classical Christian Elementary Mathematics Teachers, Cristina Marie Dube

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Classical Christian schools have increased exponentially over the past 20 years. The main mission of a classical Christian education is to produce a student who is better equipped to think and apply the Christian worldview to every situation. Classical schools are based on the Greek Trivium which focuses on the tools of learning: grammar school, logic school, and rhetoric school. Classical tenets include integration of content, memorization of basic facts, and reliance on the Socratic Method. Utilizing the Socratic Method requires teachers to be confident in their understanding of mathematics. Because of the lower mathematics self-efficacy of elementary school teachers, …
