Tutorial Reading Programs In The Elementary School: A Survey, Judith P. Mitchell

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

In this complex and often confusing country, reading is viewed by many people as the most important skill a child can acquire during his school years. Success in school, of both children and teachers, particularly in the elementary grades, is often measured by children's success in learning how to read. Reading is the tool that unlocks most knowledge for children and adults alike. As a person seeks employment the inability to read or the inability to read with facility greatly limits the opportunities.

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

From the time of the first school through the current schools of today, one of the greatest concerns of educators has been the development of curriculums. "Among the most important educational policies of schools are those pertaining to curriculum." (Kirst and Decker, 1972, p. 28) This concern has been echoed by many educators across the country including those at Utah State University. At Utah State the responsibility of the curriculum for the Education Professions Development Act, Part E, program (EPDA) belongs to the Business Education Department. The fiveyear old EPDA, Part E, program at Utah State University has been deeigned …

An Administrative Plan For Extension Library Service In Utah, Dana Andrew Samples

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

A free society that is information oriented and technologically complex requires a well informed, highly educate citizenry. The constant growth of knowledge further means that this educative process be a continuous, life-long endeavor. No longer can education be thought of as an entry point; instead, it must represent a constant evolutionary process throughout life.

A few universities long ago recognized the off campus extension of higher education as a legitimate public service responsibility. New York in 1891 and Wisconsin in 1906 made provision for extending the scope of the university to embrace a full range of adult educational needs and …

A review of recent articles indicates that the effectiveness of simulation on Vocational Education has been substantiated. Many programs have been used throughout the United States which point out the success of office simulation.

Utah began simulation by converting trailers into mobile modern offices. The first class was taught in June, 1968, with a migrant farm worker project. The program was called MOE (Mobile Office Education). Hanson and Stocker were involved in the development and teaching of this program. As society changes, current educational systems need to be evaluated and upgraded. Methods and procedures of teaching become outdated with constant technological advances. Description And Research Study Of Four Effective Teaching Methods, Gail Ryan

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

During my years in the public school system, I have felt that a basic deterrent to the child's personal and emotional growth has been the inability of educators to effectively communicate with children in the classroom. Gordon (1970, p. 298) states that teachers and other adults "lack the basic attitudes and skills to be effective training agents in an interpersonal relationship with a child or adolescent." Flanders (1971) feels that teachers, while behaviorally influencing children and determining the learning situation, actually have little knowledge about those methods of influence.

I am concerned with the need to train teachers to work …

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

In the United States responsibility for education is a function of the state, local school districts derive their authority from the state legislature (Graham, 1962). For many years, especially during the 19th century, the only legislative provision for the education of handicapped children was the limited support of state institutions and residential schools. Recent federal court decisions have substantiated the right of handicapped children to equal protection under the law, including an education, and made state departments of education "solely responsible for providing handicapped children with a free and public education appropriate to their individual capacities." (Abeson, 1972, p. 11) …
