Collective Efficacy Beliefs And Their Sources In Ncaa Division I Soccer Players, Brendan Bourdage

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

Instruments for the measurement of collective efficacy beliefs in college athletes do not provide domain-specific information that reflects the unique nature of collegiate athletics or the characteristics of specific sports. Without domain-specific measures, interventions designed to enhance collective efficacy beliefs in collegiate athletes will not be optimized. This study proposes new scales to measure the collective efficacy beliefs of NCAA Division I soccer players and identify the sources of those beliefs. Additionally, this study aims to measure how well collective efficacy beliefs are predicted by their individual sources and how the academic, social, and structural background factors present in the …

Is Empathy The Missing Link In Teaching Business Ethics? A Course-Based Educational Intervention With Undergraduate Business Students, Christopher P. Adkins Jan 2009

Is Empathy The Missing Link In Teaching Business Ethics? A Course-Based Educational Intervention With Undergraduate Business Students, Christopher P. Adkins

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

Past approaches to teaching ethics have been rooted primarily within the cognitive developmental tradition, with the focus on developing moral reasoning. Recent studies in cognitive neuroscience and social psychology have challenged this emphasis, highlighting the primacy of the emotion in driving moral decision-making. This study proposed that empathy may be an appropriate construct for integrating both processes, and that an moral education intervention that focused on empathetic perspective-taking based on Martin Hoffman's work may prove effective in both advancing moral reasoning and empathy. This approach was applied using a quasi-experimental design with undergraduate business students (N = 181) within a …

Developmental styles and strategies (DSS) are preferences and repeated patterns in intentional self-development. This study explored the reliability of the researcher-developed Educational Developmental Style and Strategy Scale, the relationships of age, gender, birth order, ethnicity, and SES to developmental DSS adoption, and the characteristics of five types of DSS adopters (i.e., street learning specialists, street learning generalists, school learning specialists, school learning generalists, the neutral group). Eighty out of …
