Electronic Checklist Implementation: Transition Training And Ga Usage, Krystal M. Megha, Erin Bowen
Electronic Checklist Implementation: Transition Training And Ga Usage, Krystal M. Megha, Erin Bowen
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
In this conceptual study, the authors explore the development of checklists for fixed-wing aviation operations, including their utility in accomplishing identified goals and adherence to human factors design principles. Furthermore, the authors review the current status of the aviation industry transition to electronic checklists, comparing them to their paper counterparts, and assess adherence to human factors principles in electronic checklist design and implementation. The role of electronic checklists in general aviation operations and safety implications of the electronic transition are discussed.
Brief Summary of Research:
Anecdotal evidence suggests that more and more pilots at both the general aviation (GA) and …
Use Of Research Aircraft Data To Validate Mesoscale Model Forecasts, Travis Swaggerty, Melanie Wetzel, Dorothea Ivanova
Use Of Research Aircraft Data To Validate Mesoscale Model Forecasts, Travis Swaggerty, Melanie Wetzel, Dorothea Ivanova
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
A NSF funded Student Training in Airborne Research and Technology (START) two-week deployment of the University of Wyoming King Air (UWKA) research aircraft was conducted at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Prescott, Arizona during late March and early April 2014. Some of the goals of this program were to build knowledge on airborne atmospheric research for undergraduate students across multiple departments and to collect a valuable set of aircraft data for atmospheric model validation. Data collection for 10 research flights is available for mesoscale model case study validation.
This project utilizes the Weather Research and Forecasting mesoscale model (WRF), version …
Low Fidelity Flight Simulation In Collegiate Aviation, Vladimir N. Risukhin
Low Fidelity Flight Simulation In Collegiate Aviation, Vladimir N. Risukhin
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
Aviation college pilot training programs, lessons and exercises contain portions that do not require training in sophisticated and highly expensive full flight simulators and flight training devices (FTD) with high fidelity of simulation, or in real aircraft flights. Relatively inexpensive personal-computer-based flight simulation facilities named low fidelity simulators (LFS) can boost development of aircraft pilots’ cognitive and behavioral skills. The paper attempts to reveal how the LFS can support aviation college flight training and research activities. In the Western Michigan University College of Aviation, peer mentoring technique proven to be helpful in higher education institutions has been applied to flight …

Aerospace Renaissance – Ripe For Research To Impact The Industry, Constantine M. Koursaris, Brig. Gen. Robert E. Mansfield Jr. (Ret.)
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
The Center for Aviation and Aerospace Leadership (CAAL) was founded in 2008 to capture, create, and share relevant information on leadership in the aviation and aerospace industry.
The AIR is developed and published in collaboration with the Aerospace Industries Association and includes:
• Information on the status of aerospace manufacturing in the United States and state of the economy
• An in-depth review of sales across the various sectors of the industry, employment trends, key international trade statistics, financial information on the industry & major aerospace firms, trends to watch, and a forecast for the future based on a review …
Post-Secondary Academic Safety Programs, And The Need For A Practicum In Training., Timothy B. Holt
Post-Secondary Academic Safety Programs, And The Need For A Practicum In Training., Timothy B. Holt
Aviation / Aeronautics / Aerospace International Research Conference
A lack of consistency among academic safety programs has prevented aviation organizations from having a dependable pool of reliably trained and prepared safety professionals to select from. Given the challenges in preparing graduates as career ready, along with the dynamic nature of the aviation and aerospace industry, a practicum for training in postsecondary academic programs is very much needed to help meet the needs and requirements of safety program management within the aviation and aerospace industry. Interviews with safety professionals currently working within the industry were utilized to help examine the needs and requirements of the aviation and aerospace industry …
