The roles include awareness creation, teaching of referencing and citation skills, information literacy programmes among others. The paper concludes …
Questioning The Dogma Of Banned Books Week, Elliott Kuecker
Questioning The Dogma Of Banned Books Week, Elliott Kuecker
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This article examines the dogmatic celebration of Banned Books Week in libraries in the United States through Foucault's notion of the speaker's benefit and the repressive hypothesis. Given that the books featured during Banned Books Week are not legally banned, but actually widely available, it appears this celebration does more for the identity of the field of librarianship than it does to fight censorship.

The Development Of A Situational Judgment Test To Assess Collegiate Judgment: A Pilot Study, Jared Stevens
The Development Of A Situational Judgment Test To Assess Collegiate Judgment: A Pilot Study, Jared Stevens
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Traditionally, colleges and universities have focused primarily on cognitive predictors (e.g., ACT/SAT scores, high school GPA), and have struggled to find an accurate and objective way of measuring non-cognitive skills, often resorting to personality measures or interviews, or deciding not to measure them at all. Recently, there has been a push for alternative forms of student selection that result in less adverse impact and do not ignore important skills and traits that are necessary to be successful in college (Peeters & Lievens, 2005; Atkinson, 2001).
Growing evidence suggests Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs) may be one way to achieve this goal. …

Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Practitioner knowledge, as the center for change in teacher education, is the heart of The Carnegie Project of the Educational Doctorate (CPED) program. Margaret Lata and Susan Wunder explain a key principle of CPED is to grow practitioners as change agents, through the development of a Problem of Practice. In their article, Investing in the Formative Nature of Professional Learning: Redirecting, Mediating, and Generating Education Practice-as-Policy (2012), they discuss how the capstone product that evolves from this Problem of Practice should impact the professional field by producing knowledge that informs and changes professional practice.
This Dissertation in Practice, “I …

Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
An effective state-level professional development system designed for Nebraska 21stCentury Community Learning Centers (21stCCLC) program leaders should consider both the unique characteristics of the program leaders themselves, as well as the rural communities where the afterschool programs are implemented. Some of these differentiating characteristics include background of the program leader and their years of experience, the size of the community, availability of staff and frequency of staff turnover, availability of potential community partners, and the quality of the relationship with the school administration and teachers where the afterschool program is implemented. Ultimately, the state-level system must …

Data was collected over the course of 4 weeks of in-season play on 10 varsity NAIA baseball players (20.40 ± 0.97 years). All games – 18 total …
Using Bayesian Multilevel Models To Control For Multiplicity Among Means, Michael J. Zweifel
Using Bayesian Multilevel Models To Control For Multiplicity Among Means, Michael J. Zweifel
College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
It is well known that the Type I error rate will exceed α when multiple hypothesis tests are conducted simultaneously. This is known as Type I error inflation. The probability of committing a Type I error grows monotonically as the number as the number of hypothesis being tested increases. A class of methods, known as multiple comparison procedures, has been developed to combat this issue. However, in turn for maintaining the Type I error rate below α, multiple comparison procedures sacrifice power to correctly reject false hypotheses. The loss of power is exacerbated when variance heterogeneity is present.
