This project describes a form of computer-assisted interactive classroom instruction, which is particularly useful in the ESL context. After systematically using educational games in three secondary English classes over a one-year period, this project documents the effectiveness of games by analyzing students' opinions. Surveys were used to determine the perceptions of 150 students about the actual games used in their classes. Some examples of effective games are also given.

This paper is a description of the development, objectives, implementation and results of an advanced composition course conducted on the Internet with IWE (International Writing Exchange) of the Helsinki University of Technology. The purpose of the course was to motivate students of English who were discouraged during the difficult IMF era in Korea in 1998. This thesis describes the development of the application mapCAST, a computer-based concept-mapping tool that allows synchronous collaboration via TCP/IP networks, such as the Internet The useability and feasibility of mapCAST as a computer-based tool was examined and analysed in a real world situation. Results indicate that mapCAST is successful as a collaborative tool in a situations involving knowledge organisation, but lacks certain functionality that many Macintosh users are accustomed to.
