A Comparison Of Two Instructional Methods In Teaching An Introductory Course In Health, Charlotte Mitchell

The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of the independent study method of instruction in promoting health knowledge and health attitude change. The experimental method was compared to the traditional classroom model of instruction.

A random sample of ten subjects was taken for the experimental group and matched control subjects were then selected. Control subjects were chosen based on the demographic variables of age, race, sex, academic classification and grade point average.

The Effects Of Three Types Of Verbal Feedback On The Form And Accuracy Of A Tennis Volley, Sylvia Goethal

This study was designed to test the effects of three kinds of verbal feedback on the form and accuracy of a tennis forehand volley. Four groups (corrective, positive, positive-corrective, and control), each composed of ten eighth-grade female students, were given a pre-test, an appropriate treatment, and a post-test. During the pre- and post-tests, subjects were tested simultaneously for form and accuracy. Accuracy was measured by placement of the volleys into court sections marked with different point values. The Problem

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the extent of use of private sector assistance techniques and resources among municipal park and recre­ation departments within South Central United States.

Procedures

A direct mail questionnaire was developed to obtain data from 116 cities in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas with populations above 20,000. A Comparison Of Exercise Responses During Acute Exposure To Hypobaria In Exercise Trained Males With Coronary Heart Disease And Healthy, Sedentary Males, David Lowell Parker

This investigation was conducted to evaluate effects of acute altitude exposure on selected pulmonary, cardiovascular, metabolic, and psychological variables measured at rest, during, and after submaximal exercise. Comparisons were made between a group of men with coronary heart disease who were participants in an exercise reha­bilitation program (trained CHD's) and a group of healthy, asymptomatic, and sedentary individuals (HI's).

Nine male trained CHD's and 10 male HI's partici­pated in the study, which was conducted during an 8-week period. Initially, all subjects performed a maximal stress test on a bicycle ergometer at 1576m. Maximal values from this test were utilized in …

Two-hundred and twenty successful and 143 unsuccessful free throw attempts, performed by 20 members of the South Dakota State University men's varsity basketball team, were photographed. Components of each trial which were analyzed included: (1) angle of release, (2) angle of entry, (3) height of the arch, (4) horizontal distance of the point of release from the highest point of the arch, (5) horizontal distance of the highest point of the arch to the front of the rim, and (6) height of the release. The purpose of this study was to determine the present status of intercollegiate varsity athletic letterwinners [sic] of Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Of equal importance to this study were the opinions and attitudes of these athletes toward their varsity athletic experience at Augustana College. All varsity letterwinners [sic] included in records obtained from the Alumni and Athletic office files, 1920 to 1977, were sent a questionnaire. The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between state anxiety measures and shooting proficiency among women basketball players during game conditions and throughout a co11egiate basketball season. This pilot study was developed to teach people with mental retardation about their own sexuality, appropriate community behaviors, and to develop within them a basic sense of responsibility for their own actions. Problems in social/sexual behaviors have been consistently quoted as reasons for high recidivism rates, as well as difficulties in community living, vocational placement, and other generalized stereotypes about mental retardation. Often the public remains uninformed about, does not recognize, and/or feels that sexual rights for people with any mental differences should not exist. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of two types of visual feedback on performance of selected uneven parallel bar skills. The subjects were 30 female college undergraduates enrolled in gymnastics and tumbling courses in the Fitness and Lifetime Activities Program (non-majors) or the Professional Skills Program (HPER majors) at South Dakota State University. Videotape replay feedback and teacher demonstration feedback were assigned to the two experimental groups with the third group serving as the control.
