The STEAM Journal

This study aims to designing an educational program in mathematics based on STEAM, and determining its impact on multiple intelligences of fifth grade students (Linguistic, Logical- Mathematical, Spatial, Bodily- kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Natural).

The educational program designed by four steps (Analysis, Design, Implementation, Evaluation)

Multiple Intelligences scale prepared according to Gardner theory, contained of (40) item applied on both of group's sample (experimental and control) that shows the result:

An educational program based on STEAM has positive Affected on the intelligences of experimental group students that (Spatial, Bodily- kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Logical- Mathematical, Natural) without different in sex (males and …

Exploring Nontraditional Learner Engagement And Motivation Through Music Integration, Jessa Rae Hershner Jan 2018

Exploring Nontraditional Learner Engagement And Motivation Through Music Integration, Jessa Rae Hershner

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The increase in population of nontraditional adult learners paired with a demand for multisensory learning created a need for further research in best pedagogy in higher education. Thus, the purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the central question on how the integration of music, lyrics, or music videos into higher education classrooms affected the motivation and engagement levels of nontraditional adult learners. The conceptual framework was based upon self-determination theory, andragogy, multiple intelligences, and visual literacy. A multiple case design was used to collect data from 8 nontraditional higher education students. Data were collected via telephone interviews …

Mapping New Routes To Composition: Allowing Access Through Universal Design For Learning, M. Lynn Dill Jul 2016

Mapping New Routes To Composition: Allowing Access Through Universal Design For Learning, M. Lynn Dill

All Student Theses

Looking at multimodal composition through the perspective of disability studies, this thesis explores the links between multiple intelligences and multimodality to discover the rhetorical skills students report learning as a result of this method of teaching. The exploration of this topic includes a study involving students enrolled at a small Midwestern university. A qualitative approach was used, with the author directly interviewing students about their experiences with multimodal composition to determine the skills developed as a result of this approach. Prior to the interview, the student volunteers took a test based on Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. This test …

Comparing Students' Perceptions Of Online Language Learning To Traditional Learning, Noreen La Piana Jun 2014

Comparing Students' Perceptions Of Online Language Learning To Traditional Learning, Noreen La Piana

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This study examined students' perceptions towards online language learning and face-to-face learning. A survey of multiple intelligences (McClelland & Conti, 2008) combined with an Online Learning Readiness Survey (OLRS) survey (Dray, Lowenthal, Miszkiewicz, Ruiz-Primo, & Marczynski, 2011) was distributed to 2,177 community college and university students in order to measure the strength of each of the nine intelligences each student possessed, as well as their perceptions of readiness for online language learning. Student preference for online/hybrid versus traditional language class was also considered. The three research questions involved an investigation of: 1) the differences between students who attended an online/hybrid …

Evaluating Learning Styles And Personality Type: Guidance For Home School Families Selecting High School Curriculum, Sarah J. Cook Aug 2013

Evaluating Learning Styles And Personality Type: Guidance For Home School Families Selecting High School Curriculum, Sarah J. Cook

Master of Education Research Theses

“The diagnosis and identification of the strengths and weaknesses of each student, both cognitive and emotional structure, establishes the teaching prescription of instruction” (White, 1998, p. 145). Along with achievement and aptitude tests and portfolios, home school parents can delve into personality and learning styles to gain a greater understanding of their child’s strengths and weaknesses and also to guide in curriculum choices. Can evaluating personality and learning styles aid home school parents in the curriculum decisions? This study included nine upper elementary home schooled students. Each participant completed a self-assessment questionnaire. The data gained from the questionnaire and the …

Multiple Intelligences In The Classroom, Julia Marie Ramirez

Theses Digitization Project

This qualitative study was designed to examine teacher feedback concerning the application of multiple intelligence methods in their classroom. The study found the theory of multiple intelligences was being implemented throughout the curriculum and students were maintaining an evident level of engagement; in turn teachers found it to be a useful intructional method.
