Researching Elite Interviewing In Higher Education In Postcolonial Bangladesh, Ariful H. Kabir
The Qualitative Report
The concept of “elite interviewing” is a recent phenomenon in educational research and has been studied widely in the Western context. Drawing on my own experience, this article traces the challenges and difficulties involved in “elite interviewing” in higher education in post-colonial Bangladesh. It is based on a critical methodological perspective, using a thematic analysis of interviews with 28 higher education policy-making elites working between the 1990s and 2010s at the state level in Bangladesh. This article examines how the local power structure within the current socio-political context emerged from a long colonial past, and how this in turn influenced …

Experiential learning educators have long fought to justify this form of active learning in their curriculum (Hesser, 2013), and the past several decades have seen a resurgence of, and renewed interest in, experiential learning through forms of hands-on learning, such as: service-learning/community-based learning, educational internships, global study abroad experiences, and undergraduate research opportunities (Kuh, 2008). The National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) Fellows are academic professionals who engage in a community of practice and explore their practitioner-scholar identity through research and scholarly inquiry into experiential education. During some monthly meetings, the discussion focused on how to infuse equity, diversity, and inclusion in internship programs. The fellows ruminated on strategies to create quality internship programs and how to embed experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum so more students could access them. The focus of education during K-12 and Higher Education (HE) in Iran is on theoretical empowerment of students; therefore, our students get an illusion of knowing. In fact, what happens is not learning and understanding; rather, it is verbatim transfer of available information in the textbooks into the students’ minds. It might be because the students and teachers (as the main stakeholders of the education) are the least powerful parties within the pyramid of power amongst educational practitioners and policymakers. This practice-based approach argues service learning can teach social justice in parks & recreation management education. The US parks system creation and history is rooted in injustice. Use of US parks and park service employment remain inequitable today. Significant work must be done in the provision of recreation and park services to all members of the community, including those who have been traditionally marginalized or underserved. The industry requires recreation and parks professionals at all levels who are informed and intentional about inclusion and social justice, which starts with parks and recreation management education.

Entrepreneurship education (EE) and experiential learning can be delivered in several ways depending on the program design, the course's purpose, and the learning outcomes. With the distinct stages of doing, observing, thinking, and planning, Kolb's experiential learning theory is favored in EE. Additionally, EE programs and courses can be categorized in the three instructional themes of teaching about, for, or through entrepreneurship. Each theme offers a particular purpose, unique learning objectives, specific teaching methodology, and different student engagement levels. When you ask your students to reflect, do they know what you mean? Do you tell them “go deeper; give me more,” but see blank faces in response? This was my experience when I first began to use reflection-based assignments. It took me some time to realize that I couldn’t assume my students knew how to reflect in the way I meant. I needed to teach my students directly about the skill of reflection. Here, I share quick tips for helping students understand what reflection is, why we require it, and how to do it well.
