This presentation was conducted for a national conference about mentoring. The authors discussed Tinto’s Model of Institutional Departure and Schlossberg’s Model for Analyzing Human Adaptation to Transition as theoretical frameworks to explain the transition and retention of university professors. The focus on the study was the three authors who transitioned to the same university during the 2022-2023 academic year. Authors discussed their experiences of the transition and found themes related to the mentoring process that that acclimated them to the institution and influenced their retention.

Throughout the course of the 2022/2023 academic year, students of the Sustainability Workshop have struggled to understand what “sustainability” means to Sarah Lawrence College. While “sustainability” can refer to a broad range of climate and eco-conscious related activity, without a common working definition of what on-campus sustainability is to Sarah Lawrence College, implementation of environmentally-focused policies have become ad hoc initiatives that have lived and died with incoming and departing student bodies, rather than lasting programs that would foster and develop an environmentally responsible campus.

Theatrical improvisation lacks investigation within higher education. The findings from this phenomenological study of seven students from a Mid- Atlantic community college lend credibility to other research supporting arts and extracurricular activities and provide insights into what they value in their educational experience. Positive social change can come from providing students with an education that includes fun, creativity, and socialization for a successful future.

The Study Abroad Ambassador Program is one of the most recent initiatives from the Office of International Programs (OIP) that offers returning students a space to complete their intercultural learning by becoming a peer advisor and assisting the study abroad office in the recruitment of prospective students. The Ambassador Program, opens a direct dialogue among students who share similar study abroad experiences. Ambassadors work to encourage their peers on campus to participate in study abroad programs. Community Colleges And First-Generation Students: Academic Discourse In The Writing Classroom, Jan Osborn

Community Colleges and First-Generation Students examines how first-generation students from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds are initiated into what is known as academic discourse, particularly at the community college. Osborn systematically looks at specific classroom discourses through detailed evidence provided by the diversities represented by the students, and how the students negotiated their identities in terms of the ideological directionality in play.

Using the four-Cs framework, the Strong Start Program was developed and implemented at a twoyear public community college to increase developmental course pass rates. There was a statistically significant difference (z = 1.93, p < .05) in the proportion of students who passed Strong Start supported courses (68.43%; n = 199) and students who passed traditional developmental courses (59.46%, n = 231).

The purpose of this single case study was to understand the perceptions of Latino Spanish-speaking English learners on the efficacy of developmental education services at a western United States community college. Research questions focused on how the developmental education services contributed to the successful completion of the child development practicum for Latino Spanish-speaking English learners. The primary data collection method was in-depth individual interviews of a purposeful sample of nine successful students. Findings indicated that participants relied on Spanish instruction for comprehensible context, but needed consistent education support services and information from a culturally responsive institution in a language they …
