Student organizations have been contributing to adult education for years. The need to recruit non-traditional students and retain them is very important to the financial support of the career and technical program. If a career-technical student organization (CTSO) can encourage retention and completion of traditional and non-traditional students in a field of study, the state might realize the need to increase the funding provided to the advisers/instructors of the CTSO and the financial support of the CTSO. The purpose of this study was to gather information from Project Lead The Way (PLTW) partnership team experts. This project follows the methodology of a modified Delphi study. A review of literature in the areas of curriculum development, pre-college engineering, and the Delphi research technique provided the background for the structure utilized. Top programs from across the country were questioned to identify and come to a consensus on top components essential to developing and utilizing a successful PLTW partnership team. A Phenomenological Study Of The Educational Experiences Of Black Women: Learning As You Go, Eva Young, Mary Ziegler, Kathy Greenberg

This research study provided a descriptive picture of educational experiences of three sets of Black sisters who grew up in the inner-city. A qualitative existential-phenomenological research study design was used to derive common themes that represented the universal essence of the participants’ experiences. This study illuminated the formal and informal learning experiences of Black women and the profound role cultural experiences of family and community play in shaping their learning experiences through adulthood. Findings suggest that the educational experiences of Black women influenced their development, voice, self-esteem, and self-defined achievement and success. This paper represents a literature review on the topic of organizational change. It argues that how we label a specific type of organizational change has an impact on how we both view the change and the potential outcome. The focus here is on transformational change—a change that occurs at the center core of the organization and results in substantial change to the center core of the organization, impacting the currently held beliefs and assumptions.

Data collected through interviews with individuals who recently experienced a Participation Training Institute reveals the nature of the phenomenon as reflective practice, as improvisational theater, and as eductive process. In this paper I report the findings of a study of primary care physicians’ experiences as they enter the medical profession after residency training. Using narrative inquiry to learn about the participants’ experiences, this study found that despite strong professional socialization during training, the participants constructed their medical practices to meet both their professional and personal aspirations while conforming to organizational expectations.

This study identified length of time out of school and institutional support among the factors associated with the decision to enroll in a higher education degree program. Adult graduate students in five cohorts nation-wide listed factors of good and bad learning experiences; factors were sorted into cognitive, affective, and psychomotor categories. Overall a high frequency of response in the affective domain was revealed. Instructor/student relationship was prominent. This work can inform curricular and faculty development design decisions.

Loss of one’s home, conditions of shelter life, and abuse that often precipitate homelessness result in diminished self-efficacy and hope. Adult education programs for homeless women often follow a remedial rather than a developmental model. This mixed method study investigated a unique program in garden-based learning for homeless women to better understand how this type of adult education program contributed to the women’s hope and self-efficacy.

Through historical analysis, adult education is shown to perpetuate widespread social practices of oppression for learners who experience intellectual and other disabilities. A redefinition of whom and what makes a valuable contribution to society is offered; a shift to more inclusive thinking is recommended and a practical necessity due to recent federal legislation.

This paper explores the relationship between creative expression and spirituality, examining ways in which adults seek knowledge and/or make meaning through these connections. Four themes emerged from this research: trust and letting go of control, a sense of connectedness, flow and devotion, and creativity as a healing force.
