Market Reaction Test On Banks & Brokers Based On Bitcoin Price History. A Look At National Commercial Banks And Security Broker, Exchanges, And Service Stocks Following The Most Volatile Swings In Bitcoin’S Price., Payton Earl

CMC Senior Theses

This paper examines if there is an inverse correlation between Bitcoin’s most volatile price swings and national commercial banks and security brokers, exchanges and service companies performance. Company performance in the dataset is measured by Cumulative Abnormal Returns during 2021 within a two-day period where Bitcoin has had the most significant uptick and downtick events. Using a market-adjusted model for my regression, it is concluded that Bitcoin’s largest uptick event did indeed have an inversely negative effect on traditional banks and trading securities companies, as the Cumulative Abnormal Returns were negative for my 107 observations and the event was statistically …

Effects Of Firm Environmental And Sustainability Performance On Nonprofessional Investors’ Judgments: A Comparison Between The United States And Germany, Jackson M. Nietert

Senior Theses

Several studies find that environmental reporting is significant to investors’ decision-making. Here, the effect of German and US-American cultures on nonprofessional investors’ judgments when given positive or negative environmental reports is examined. Two experiments were conducted, one with US students recruited locally and German participants recruited online and the other with all participants recruited online to ensure more similar samples. In both experiments, in line with previous research, environmental reporting has a significant impact on nonprofessional investors’ decision-making process. In addition, the first experiment shows that German nonprofessional investors are more likely to penalize firms for poor environmental ratings however …

Supply Chain Finance: Techniques, Benefits, And Trends, Hamid Ghofrani

Hawala: How Extralegal Compliance Helps Bank The Unbanked, Morgan Henry May 2017

Hawala: How Extralegal Compliance Helps Bank The Unbanked, Morgan Henry

Economic Crime Forensics Capstones

Informal value transfer systems (IVTS') predate not only traditional banking systems, but the entire Western European civilization as well. Used as a reliable method to transfer value from one geographic region to another through a close-knit network of trusted individuals, IVTS' serve as an invaluable facilitator for the movement of billions of dollars across international borders without ever leaving a paper trail. The term “hawala”, which is Arabic for “transfer” or “trust”, is an IVTS that serves as a parallel banking system for those wishing to send value (often in the form of currency) overseas. Hawala has historically thrived as …

Corruption: Case Studies Of Vietnam And Italy, Thuy-Tien T. Vo

Global Honors Theses

Corruption is morally and legally wrong. Despite many governmental policies and strategies designed to combat corruption, it still persists in most parts of the world. To understand why corruption is so persistent and pervasive, it is necessary to recognize the perceptions of the beneficiaries and victims of the issue and to comprehend the extent to which cultural biases influence individuals’ decisions to give in to corruption. Acquiescence to dishonest and fraudulent behavior can foster political corruption in many countries. Vietnam and Italy were selected as case studies for this paper. Using the case studies of these two different countries will …

Mandatory Adoption Of International Accounting Standards In Germany: Financial Statement Effects, Sarah Wagemann Aug 2012

Mandatory Adoption Of International Accounting Standards In Germany: Financial Statement Effects, Sarah Wagemann

Graduate Theses

This paper addresses the mandatory adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in Germany in 2005. The financial, statement effects and the variability of key accounting measures are analyzed under the German Commercial Code (Handelsgesetzbuch - HGB, German GAAP) and IFRS. I find that book value of equity and net income are slightly larger under IFRS than under German GAAP which reflects the fair value orientation of IFRS. Only weak evidence exists that the mandatory adoption of IFRS results in significant accounting differences unlike the results found in financial statements of German firms that voluntarily adopted IFRS.

United States Gaap Versus International Accounting Standards: Convergence Or Divergence. Evidence From Form 20-F, Kendra Jo Huff

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

Numerous accounting standards and practices affect the financial statements analyzed by investors and creditors thus bringing into question the comparability of such statements. Firms operating internationally often apply accounting methods and practices accepted by other global firms and investors. Comparability increases, or harmonization occurs, as firms converge toward a few accepted methods or when the number of methods applied decrease. This study analyzes the comparability of profits based on U.S. principles versus International Accounting Standards and other foreign accounting principles. The data for the analysis consisted of the reconciliation items and profits reported in Form 20-F filed by foreign corporations …
