How Job Function Characteristics Impact Performance Of Diverse Teams In High-Tech Industry, Angela Fong

The other participants believe that there are positive effects, but it is inconclusive when it comes to whether certain types of diversity result in better team outcomes. The results also reflect …

Virtual teams have been used in varying degrees by organizations over the last several decades. The COVID-19 pandemic has required organizations to increase their use of virtual teams for survival. This increase has placed the positive and negative aspects of working within this virtual paradigm into the spotlight, requiring organizational management and employees to adapt abruptly. This has led to individuals adopting sets of technical tools for communicating and working together in a virtual environment. Identifying and examining the critical perspectives and components for virtual team success, this paper seeks to initiate a framework to help an organization decide if …

Mutual Accountability And Its Impacts On Cross-Functional Teams, Lori E. Simms
Theses and Dissertations
The intent of cross-functional teams is to bring together diverse individuals of relevant functional expertise from across an organization to solve problems rapidly and efficiently. This qualitative study explored mutual accountability, how it is established, and its impact on cross-functional teams. Nine individuals participated in semi-structured interviews to explore how mutual accountability is established, barriers to establishing and maintaining it, and the impact of its presence or lack thereof on the …

We investigate how two different types of conflict (task conflict and relationship conflict) at two different levels (individual-level and team-level) influence individual team commitment. The analysis was conducted using data we collected from 193 employees in 31 branch offices of a Korean commercial bank. The relationships at multiple levels were tested using hierarchical linear modeling (HLM). The results showed that individual-level relationship conflict was negatively related to team commitment while individual-level task conflict was not. In addition, both team-level task and relationship conflict were negatively associated with team commitment. Finally, only team-level relationship conflict significantly moderated the relationship between individual-level …

The Effect Of Online Training On Teams, Ariel Becker
The Effect Of Online Training On Teams, Ariel Becker
Journal of Undergraduate Research at Minnesota State University, Mankato
Many organizations recognize the importance of utilizing teams to accomplish work (Chuboda et al., 2005; Devine et al., 1999; Ilgen, 1999; Martins et al., 2004). As technology has advanced, many of these organizations have recently become more reliant on virtual project work, which allows work teams to communicate across geographical distances (Driskell et al., 2003). Considering the growing prevalence of virtual teams in organizations, more needs to be known about how to facilitate virtual team effectiveness. In addition, the increased use of teams in organizations has identified and created the need for team training (Ilgen, 1999). Creating a training environment …

A Faultine-Based Model Of Team Leadership, Andrew M. Carton, Jonathan N. Cummings
Management Papers
Modern work teams operate in environments where increasingly salient member differences lead to the emergence of subgroups. Building on findings from the faultline literature, we propose that team members typically organize into three types of subgorups—cliques, coalitions, and cohorts, and that different leader orientations are mandated by each subgroup type.
