A Comparative Analysis Of Personal Financial Literacy, Connor Davey May 2018

A Comparative Analysis Of Personal Financial Literacy, Connor Davey

Finance Undergraduate Honors Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to provide a comparative analysis of the financial state of modern American college graduates to similar groups of graduates. From this comparative analysis, we can see which aspects of Personal Financial Literacy need to be emphasized to achieve success as a new college graduate. First, a comparison was made between modern American graduates and American graduates from Generation X. It was found that modern graduates have just slightly more student loan debt than Gen X graduates, despite having significantly higher tuition rates. This debt amount, over time, would not be a huge concern for …

The Multifaceted Leadership Of R. J. Chambers: A Personal Reflection, Michael J. Gaffikin

Michael Gaffikin

I was working in a fairly insignificant accounting department of a (then) small university when I was charged with the responsibility of accompanying Ray Chambers and his wife Margaret to dinner. He had accepted an invitation to the University from its Accounting Student Society and for us it was an important occasion to have such a distinguished visitor. During our conversation that evening Ray suggested I come to Sydney University as he thought I would find it (intellectually) stimulating. I took upu his suggestion and did not live to regret it. Working with Chambers was indeed an intellectually stimulating expewrience …

Tribes In Personal Finance? The Dave Ramsey Phenomenon, Ciorstan Smark

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

Purpose: This paper explores the Dave Ramsey financial planning phenomenon (comprising his syndicated Radio Programs; Books on the New York Times Bestseller List; Twitter and Facebook presence; Program of Live events and seminars) and considers whether this financial planning phenomena meets the criteria set out by Godin (2008, 13) for a "tribe" and by Foucault (1977) for a "disciplinary Institution".

Design/methodology/approach: This paper employs a form of the Socratic or dialogue approach to explore and comment on various aspects of the tribe mentality that is evident in Davey Ramsey phenomenon. The discourse seeks to deconstruct the alignment of the phenomenon …

Coaching Efficacy With Academic Leaders: A Phenomenological Investigation, Deanna Lee Vansickel-Peterson Nov 2010

Coaching Efficacy With Academic Leaders: A Phenomenological Investigation, Deanna Lee Vansickel-Peterson

College of Education and Human Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The purpose of this psychological phenomenological research was to understand the efficacy of life coaching from the perspective of academic leaders. To date, not one investigation or attempt has been made towards the above stated purpose. This study includes a theoretical overview and a review of the coaching literature from Socrates (469-399 BC) to current day Humanistic theory presented in part by Roger (1902-1987).

This process included data collection from five academic leaders who have been coached for at least two years. Levels of analysis of 365 statements, quote and/or comments produced finding of efficacy in life coaching with academic …

Personal Income Tax Reform In Australia: A Specific Proposal, Binh Tran-Nam, Linh Vu, Brian Andrew Jan 2007

Personal Income Tax Reform In Australia: A Specific Proposal, Binh Tran-Nam, Linh Vu, Brian Andrew

Faculty of Business - Papers (Archive)

This paper examines the possibility that foreign aid financing for public capital accumulation in developing countries may lead to excess depreciation of capital. The depreciation rate on public capital is endogenised in a general equilibrium framework in which the government collects a consumption tax to finance maintenance and repair expenditures as well as public investment. Tow simple cases are formulated and analysed to show that excess depreciation of public capital may result from budgetary and international aid and financing distortions that skew allocations to new investment rather than to maintenance of existing capital.

N-Gens Of Change: Personal Response Systems And Net-Generation Students, Brian Murphy, Ciorstan J. Smark Jan 2006

N-Gens Of Change: Personal Response Systems And Net-Generation Students, Brian Murphy, Ciorstan J. Smark

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

Personal Response Systems are a technology similar to use to a television remote control or a mobile telephone for sending SMS messages. They enable almost instant communication between student and instructor in lecture situations. This paper examines the claims made by Personal Response Systems and considers whether they may be especially appropriate to the preferences and expectations of Net- Generation students. The Net-Generation (also known as N-Gens) is made up of students born between 1981 and 2001. They now make up the bulk of finance students in universities across our region. But have we really adapted our lecturing styles to …

Personal Response Systems Workshop, Brian Murphy, Ciorstan J. Smark

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

Personal response systems (PRS) are known under several names. "Clickers"; "Audience Response Systems"; "Group Response Systems"; and "Classroom Performance Systems"; all of these are systems where the audience can respond to questions or give feedback to the presenter of a lecture or workshop whilst that presentation is taking place. This allows for immediate, and (if wished) anonymous feedback to the presenter and to the class.

The Use Of The Internet In The Personal Sales Function For Building Materials B2b Firms: Adding Value With Technology, Robert G. Grant Jan 2003

The Use Of The Internet In The Personal Sales Function For Building Materials B2b Firms: Adding Value With Technology, Robert G. Grant

Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)

This paper seeks to explore the potential of the internet for adding value to members of a highly standardised and largely commodity priced industry. The focus is on the largely interpersonal area of personal sales to give an understanding of the need to look at processes underlying functions to get an appropriate evaluation of the potential benefits derived from the use of such technology. Beyond this, the paper deals with the analysis required to evaluate the potential impact of the adoption of technology based systems by such organisations to illustrate the complexity involved in such adoption. There are conclusions which …

Perceptions Of Financial Counselling In Western Australia, Natalie Dall Jan 1996

Perceptions Of Financial Counselling In Western Australia, Natalie Dall

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

The development of financial counselling in Australia during the past decade has been complex and fragmented. Financial counselling and rural counselling services within Western Australia are funded from a range of government, non-government and church based groups. This has contributed to problems in the identification of basic definitions of the need for services, the role of the financial counsellor and service models or functions. The failure to define the role of the financial counsellor and the needs to be addressed by financial counselling services, "appears to be the most important historic weakness in the field." (Wyse et al., 1990, p.2). …
