Investor Reaction To Exploration Versus Exploitation Using An Asorptive Capacity Lens, Kevin Walsh
Investor Reaction To Exploration Versus Exploitation Using An Asorptive Capacity Lens, Kevin Walsh
Theses and Dissertations
In his seminal work, March (1991) points to innovation as a key to a firm’s survival. In this dissertation proposal, I seek to build on March’s research by leveraging his construct of balancing a focus on improving existing capabilities (“exploitation”) while simultaneously creating new competencies (“exploration”). These two approaches to innovation are often viewed as requiring a firm to leverage very different skills. Not only are there differing skills, but the level of risk and potential reward also vary based on a firm’s decision to focus on exploration versus exploitation. The reaction of investors to this dichotomy is the focus …

University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing
Managers and academics frequently emphasize the importance of innovation and the innovative business behaviours of employees in organizations for achieving long-term success and a sustainable competitive advantage. In this research, a conceptual model including inclusive leadership, innovative work behaviour and psychological empowerment is proposed to further the understanding of the premises of innovative work behaviour and to expand the literature. The questionnaire that was prepared for the purposes of the research was administered to 5-star hotel staff in the northern part of Cyprus (N = 457). The results were analysed using SPSS and AMOS software. The findings show that inclusive …

Conference Materials
Globally, diversity in the workplace has become more prominent than ever before and continues to rise (Shukla et al., 2019). To strategically manage the diverse workforce, a significant number of organisations have embraced the practice of diversity management. Diversity management refers to the formal and informal structures, methods and programs implemented by an organisation to promote organisational equality for employees (Sukalova and Ceniga, 2020). Diversity management programs have been introduced with a range of ostensible aims, including: increasing the rates of participation of women and ethnic minorities, improving career prospects for such groups, incorporating wider perspectives into the decision-making processes …
Essays On Managerial Attributes And Corporate Finance, Juntai Lu
Essays On Managerial Attributes And Corporate Finance, Juntai Lu
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In my dissertation, I explore how managerial attributes affect corporate policies.
In my first essay, I examine the effects of public firm CEOs’ prior private equity (PE) target experiences on corporate policies. Based on difference-in-differences and propensity score matching analyses, public firm CEOs previously serving as CEOs in PE targets reduce investment by about 15 percent while enhancing patent values by over 7 percent after taking office compared to CEOs without such experiences. The effects are stronger if these CEOs (1) worked in targets invested by more reputable PE firms, (2) worked in targets invested by PE firms known for …

Managers play a pivotal role in the innovation process; yet, the mechanisms through which managers enhance or undermine innovation are not well understood. Drawing upon self-concordance theory, we argue that managers can augment employees' self-concordance—defined as the congruence of goals and actions with inner values and preferences—through transformational behavior and thereby contribute to innovation. However, transformational behavior is closely coupled to another form of influence, namely, process management, the attempt to directly manage innovation-related activities. This form of managerial influence reduces employees' self-concordance and thereby undermines innovation. We test our conceptual model in a sample of 188 innovation projects using …
Barriers And Enablers To Building Entrepreneurial Ecosystems As Perceived By Change Agents In The Workplace, Shanda Barrett
Barriers And Enablers To Building Entrepreneurial Ecosystems As Perceived By Change Agents In The Workplace, Shanda Barrett
Dissertations
This study explores factors that influence entrepreneurial ecosystems. Clifton (2010, 2015) recommends entrepreneurship, better business models, and new business startups as a solution for economic renewal in the United States and specifically identifies disengaged workers and low-energy workplaces as the starting point. The recommendation does not address how to make workplaces conducive to entrepreneurial activity, nor does the recommendation address how to engage entrepreneurial employees.
Existing literature outlines the known tensions between theory, anecdotal evidence, and the professional practice of building entrepreneurial ecosystems. To date, the term entrepreneurial ecosystem exists as a metaphor in the extant literature. While scholars have …
