Artificial Intelligence And Its Need In Healthcare, Michael Haskins
Artificial Intelligence And Its Need In Healthcare, Michael Haskins
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Artificial intelligence (AI) has bombarded many of the global industries with promises to improve day-to-day operations, while augmenting decision-making and providing simplistic solutions. The healthcare industry has begun to observe the uptick in AI as well, with challenges of quality, costs, and access historically actualized; leaving healthcare leaders with decisions to make about adopting AI into their facilities. With the dynamic provisions that AI is driving in industry, there is still not a holistic adoption due to many fears and unknowns. A pulse into the minds of healthcare leaders is needed to understand the relationship between AI and healthcare.

Belmont University Research Symposium (BURS)
Owned by North Nashville’s First Community Church, a now empty site in the Osage-North Fisk neighborhood of North Nashville has been identified as a potential site for a new location of The Store, in addition to a community-centric architectural development based on the social determinants of health and informed by the principles behind Blue Zones, the locations with the highest lifespans in the world. Opened by Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley, The Store is a free grocery store that “allow[s] people to shop for their basic needs in a way that protects dignity and fosters hope”, for which North Nashville …
Consumer Attitude Toward Physician Practice Ownership: Propositions For Future Research, Gary Futrell
Consumer Attitude Toward Physician Practice Ownership: Propositions For Future Research, Gary Futrell
Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2024
Employed physicians now outnumber self-employed doctors, with approximately one-third of all U.S. physicians working for a hospital-owned or hospital-affiliated practice and many others employed at larger practices with 11 or more physicians. Consequently, the number of physicians working in small independent practices (those with 10 or fewer physicians) has dropped to nearly 15%. Management literature suggests that ownership of a firm can affect consumer attitudes. Specific to health care, significant research attention has been given to the implications of practice ownership from an operational, managerial, outcomes, and human resources perspective. However, little can be found to address the implications of …
Bio-Bust: Investigating Biotech Stock Factors Contributing To Abnormal Returns In The Wake Of Silicon Valley Bank's Failure, Spencer Kent
Bio-Bust: Investigating Biotech Stock Factors Contributing To Abnormal Returns In The Wake Of Silicon Valley Bank's Failure, Spencer Kent
CMC Senior Theses
Following the unprecedented collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) in March 2023, this study explores abnormal stock price reactions within the biotechnology sector. As the chosen financial institution for countless Silicon Valley-type technology and healthcare firms, SVB's failure had a profound impact on small to mid-sized biotech companies. Analyzing a dataset of 180 biotech firms during a two-day event window over SVB’s collapse, I investigate whether exposure to SVB, or other factors, was the primary contributor to negative abnormal stock price reactions, considering variables such as the percentage of cash held at SVB, whether a firm maintained an active SVB …

As the fusion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technology advances, it is increasingly shaping diverse fields. The potential of this convergence to fortify security, enhance privacy, and streamline operations has ignited considerable academic interest, resulting in an impressive body of literature. However, there is a noticeable scarcity of studies employing Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) to dissect and categorize this field. This review paper endeavours to bridge this gap by meticulously analysing a dataset of 4455 journal articles drawn solely from the Scopus database, cantered around IoT and blockchain applications. Utilizing LDA, we have extracted 14 distinct topics …

Enterprise Architecture In Healthcare Networks: A Systematic Literature Review, Arjen Maris, Stijn Hoppenbrouwers, Jos Van Hillegersberg
Communications of the IIMA
Healthcare organizations collaborate, share knowledge, and need to be accountable to each other. Therefore, healthcare organizations manage a dynamic information system landscape. Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a management tool for aligning these landscapes to the primary information needs that healthcare organizations have. EA is of value in some environments, but it seems to be not well suited to the dynamics of healthcare. Despite the publication of several systematic literature reviews on EA in healthcare, a systematic literature study comparing EA applicability at various levels of cooperation (intra, inter, and network collaboration) is lacking. Therefore, we posed the following research question: …

Exploring The Impact Of Technology Dominance On Audit Professionalism Through Data Analytic-Driven Healthcare Audits, Jared Koreff, Lisa Baudot, Steve G. Sutton
School of Business Faculty Research
Artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled tools and analytics hold the potential to radically alter audit processes by disseminating centralized audit expertise. We examine this potential in the context of data analytic-driven audits mandated to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse in a government-sponsored healthcare program. To do so, we draw on semistructured interviews with healthcare providers (i.e., auditees) subject to healthcare audits. Our work shows how use of paraprofessional auditors guided by AI-enabled tools and analytics reflects a very different audit environment. Specifically, auditees’ experiences suggest paraprofessional auditors lack specific expertise and credentials to conduct data-driven audits, apply judgment in deference to technology, …

Understanding The Big Data Analytics Deployment Gap: Operationally Leveraging Big Data Analytics Capability For Value Generation In Healthcare, Hyunmin (Dan) Shin
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Despite the surge of big data analytics (BDA) deployments in healthcare, many organizations still struggle to successfully realize value from their investments. This has resulted in the phenomenon of BDA deployment gap, where relative to the interest and investments in BDA initiatives by the organizations, actual value generated from successful migrations of BDA models from data labs to in-practice environment deployments at the initiative level have been scarce. To leverage the growing repository of big data, organizations are required to develop the ability to collect, store, process, and analyze big data (BD); this process is referred to as big data …

Investigation Of Privacy Within Health Marketing, Digital Activism, And International Contexts, Alec N. Slepchuk
Doctoral Dissertations
Privacy, which has a long history of academic inquiry across multiple disciplines, is critically important to modern marketing. Advances in digital information technologies have allowed marketers to provide personalized services to consumers at the cost of their privacy. However, as new technologies increase privacy tensions across all facets of life, so does the need for situational scholarship on privacy. This dissertation uses a variety of datasets, theories, and analytical methods to examine three important privacy contexts: healthcare (industry), activists (actors), and countries (nations). Essay 1 draws on justice theory to examine the role of fairness in consumers’ decision to use …

Revitalizing The Healthcare Market: An Analysis Of Hospital Pricing Transparency Compliance, Ellie Bruggeman
Business and Economics Summer Fellows
The healthcare industry is one of the most praised industries in the US due to its lifesaving capabilities and immersive care. Consumers regularly report that are satisfied with the care they receive from their physicians. Conversely, they also report frustrations and confusions associated with the costs of such care. In extreme cases, this frustration can turn to financial ruin as medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US. The healthcare industry does not operate in congruence with other markets, largely due to the presence of insurance and other third-party payers. The undisclosed interactions between third party payers …

Access to affordable quality health care has been a long debating issue in the United States. Many scholarly research articles indicated that the cost of insurance premiums, deductibles, co-payments, and prescription drugs continue to rise every year. Despite various efforts to reduce the cost of health care in the United States, the trend remains the same. Au contraire, more Americans are unable to afford the cost of prescription drugs. More Americans postpone their medical treatments. More Americans find it difficult to financially address their health care needs. It can be inferred that high health cost has a significant impact in …

What Does It Look Like For Mental Healthcare Organizations To Be Healthy Places To Work? An Action Research Study, Stephanie L. Fox
Antioch University Full-Text Dissertations & Theses
Mental healthcare organizations have a reputation for being unhealthy places to work. The irony of this reputation is keenly felt by its workforce who report unsustainable workloads, high levels of stress, and lack of support or engagement from higher-level leadership. As a mental healthcare provider now in a position of leadership, who has worked across all levels of care within the sector, it was of interest to me to explore how a mental health organization can become a healthier and more sustainable place to work. I approached this study with the assumption that if an organization was healthy and intentional …
