Protecting the environment for future generations is crucial. Although businesses are under strong pressure to support sustainability, many leaders find it challenging to meet the environmental needs of the present without negatively impacting their economic goals. This paper describes some methods that businesses have adopted to effectively manage environmental issues and offer an opportunity for competitive advantage. In particular, three case studies show ways that the companies have embraced and integrated sustainability into their strategic planning process, which helped them achieve growth and success in the context of social and environmental concerns. The main purpose of this report is to document the economic effects of tourism in Osceola County. Few industries have as much impact on the economy of Osceola County. In 2012, a total of 5.9 million tourists visited the area, spending on average $5.8 million per day, resulting in $2.1 billion in direct spending effect. The total economic contribution of tourism to the county is $3.1 billion, resulting in an estimated multiplier of 1.48. Understanding The Antecedents And Consequences Of Sales And Use Tax Policy: Evidence From Three Studies, Amy Hageman

This dissertation consists of three separate but interrelated studies examining the antecedents and consequences of sales and use tax (SUT) policy. The first study investigates whether elements of the SUT system influence elements of economic development, and tests whether SUT rates and/or bases influence state-aggregated levels of capital expenditures and employment within the manufacturing sector from 1983-2006. Results indicate that elements of the tax base (i.e., SUT exemptions) affect these indicators of economic development, but the same relationship was not seen for SUT rates. This report contains the results of Harrison Price Company’s (HPC) research and consulting efforts. Section 2 contains a description of the resident market. Section 3 evaluates the existing visitor market. Section 4 presents data on the current tourist infrastructure. Section 5 extrapolates the prior data in an estimate of potential future visitation. Bryan Jones and Wolfgang Herr, retained Harrison Price Company (HPC) to carry out a preliminary evaluation of the potential for developing a major themed attraction in or near Sevilla. The project would capitalize on the improving economic condition and tourist infrastructure in Andalucia and Spain, increased mobility in Europe attributable to the 1992 reforms and the extraordinary exposure Sevilla will receive from hosting the 1992 Universal World Exposition, the "Age of Discovery."
