This thesis takes an in depth look at the history and processes behind creating sample-based music. Sampling was popularized during the beginnings of hip-hop music and now a wide variety of genres use samples or techniques created by sample-based music. Early hip-hop beats took samples of drum breaks or a portion of a track from another artist or band. As hip-hop grew in the late 80s and early 90s, the use of samples became a question of intellectual property rights and if it was acceptable to sample someone’s copyrighted work. Lawsuits in the early 90’s helped to create new caselaw …

Indeed, a lack of understanding of these influences has been the downfall …

Marching On Together: The Future Of Non-Profit Museums In A For-Profit World, Matthew R. Dellaguzzo

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This thesis proposes a model of increased collaboration among museums as an alternative to the commercialization of the museum field. Through a combination of internal and external factors, museums are finding it necessary to operate in a manner akin to that of commercial enterprises. This trend threatens to undermine the cultural and educational mission of museums. At the same time, the ability of museums to carry out their missions necessarily depends on a solid financial base. Collaboration, whether in the form of consortia or consolidated institutions, provides an avenue whereby museums can not only make more economical use of their …

Basic human needs are not being met, leaving the path to NGO program success fraught with seemingly impossible challenges. This is the case for Peace Through Business, a training and development program serving women entrepreneurs in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Catholic Social Teaching theory is examined to identify business variables consistent with Papal Encyclicals. We identified top compensation (pay disparity), stock options (employee autonomy), and number of employees (primacy of labor over capital) as factors that are consistent with Catholic Social Teaching. We then used the “CSR Hub” environmental scores of manufacturing firms. We chose to look at manufacturing companies because of their potential for environmental impact. We find that firms that are consistent with Catholic Social Teaching have stronger environmental practices. Specifically, our research suggests that the greater the investment in labor, measured by cost of goods sold per …
