Weaving Layers Of Learning: Multiplex Learning Networks In The Workplace, Sangok Yoo, John Turner, Kim Nimon, Bisola Adepoju

Human Resource Development Faculty Publications and Presentations

The multidimensional characteristic of learning has received little attention in the network literature, resulting in fragmented empirical evidence on learning networks. To address this gap, we introduce a framework that allows a better understanding of the multidimensionality of learning networks by employing the concept of multiplexity in the network literature. Our proposed conceptual framework for multiplex learning networks includes a 3-E typology (exploration, exploitation, and exaptation), which serve as distinct layers within the multiplex networks. We also provide a hypothetical scenario to demonstrate the potential of our multiplex learning networks framework for HRD scholars and practitioners. Moreover, we extend our …

The Ideal Review Process Is A Three-Way Street, Andrea D. Ellinger, Patrik Johnson, Karen Chapman, Alexander E. Ellinger

Human Resource Development Faculty Publications and Presentations

In response to the increasing difficulty of obtaining high quality peer reviews, our invited paper describes the concept of review avoidance and why this phenomenon occurs. In reaffirming the professional responsibilities and potential benefits of reviewing, we also emphasize the interdependent nature of the ideal peer review process. We suggest that the review process is a three-way street where the respective roles and responsibilities of authors, editors and editorial teams, and reviewers are inextricably linked. We present thematic illustrations of undesirable reviewer comments, and a brief synthesis of broad themes in the literature on high-quality reviewing. The synthesis is complemented …

Importance In Decreasing Blood Culture Contaminations, Jannery Valdelamar Apr 2023

Importance In Decreasing Blood Culture Contaminations, Jannery Valdelamar

MSN Capstone Projects

Blood culture collection was a skill introduced while in nursing school. We are all human and make mistakes, and sometimes errors are made. Blood culture contamination happens. It happens even more in hectic departments like Emergency Department and Intense Care Unit. The American Society for Microbiology and Clinical Laboratory Standard have recommended that the %3 should be the overall rate for blood contamination rate (Center for Disease Control, 2023). In the current facility that I am in, blood culture contamination is an enormous issue. The facility rate is 9.3%, the Emergency Department was 11.3%, and the Phlebotomy was 5.2%. Multiple …

Medical documentation is an essential part of healthcare and conducted at the highest standard; documentation ensures the delivery of safe and high-quality healthcare services (Noureldin et al., 2014). Performance Improvement team reports the same poor outcomes each quarter that may be a result of the paper-based documentation system. These outcomes include patient safety, patient satisfaction and cost-effectiveness. This narrative review’s purpose is to determine whether the implementation of an electronic health record (EHR) system could improve outcomes. Evidence-based guidelines for the implementation of an EHR need special consideration to have a successful transition. Further studies may need to be reviewed …

Predictability Augmentation By In-Silico Study To In-Vivo And In-Vitro Results Of Lung Doses Of Airborne Fine And Ultrafine Particles Inhaled By Humans At Industrial Workplaces, Mohammed Ali

Technology Faculty Publications and Presentations

This study correlates computational predictions with in vivo and in vitro experimental results of inhaled fine and ultrafine particulate matter (PM) transport, dissemination, and deposition in the human respiratory airways. Epidemiological studies suggest that workplace exposure to anthropogenic pollutant PMs is a risk factor for increased susceptibility to acute bronchopulmonary illnesses. However, investigations on detailed human inhalation and PM transport processes are restrictive from time, cost, and ethical perspectives. Computational simulation based on the Multiple Path Particle Dosimetry (MPPD) model was employed to quantify the risks associated with workplace exposure of these PMs. Here, the physical, mechanical, and electrical properties …

Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

The purpose of this article is to empirically explore (1) the impact of political ties on international joint ventures’ (IJVs) R&D strategy and (2) the moderating effects of market turbulence and governmental policy turbulence on the relationship between IJV political ties and R&D investment in China. Our sample consists of 1,344 observations taken from 224 IJVs over a period of 6 years (2012–2017), and we applied hierarchical moderated regression analysis (HMRA) with panel data to analyze our three hypotheses. Our findings show that IJVs with political ties tend to invest more in R&D than their counterparts without political ties. Interestingly, …

Should Pharma Companies Waive Their Covid-19 Vaccine Patents? A Legal And Ethical Appraisal, Tammy W. Cowart, Gregory L. Bock

Accounting, Finance & Business Law Faculty Publications and Presentations

Pharmaceutical companies, like many other types of companies, are incentivized to create, manufacture, and distribute new products, in part due to the legal protections of patent law. However, the tension between patent rights and the public good has been heightened as pharma companies developed new vaccines to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Wealthy governments paid well for vaccines and received ample supplies, while low- and middle-income countries struggled to obtain access to any vaccines. Some countries called for pharmaceutical companies to waive their patent protections for vaccines in order to facilitate the worldwide manufacture and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. This paper …
