Between Aastha And Zee:Mystery Of The Missing Market For Aweather Channel, Satish Y. Deodhar, Chayasmita Deka

International Review of Business and Economics

Until a few decades ago, Doordarshan was the only channel which would broadcast TV programmes in black-&-white and that too for a few hours. It was a pure public good then, offered free of cost by the government. Today, however, from Aastha to Zee there are hundreds of dedicated private channels competing to offer news, sports, entertainment, and spirituality for a price. And still, there is not a single channel which is dedicated to 24-hour weather forecast. This is a clear case of market failure of the free enterprise system. The missing market for an exclusive weather channel is the …

The Airport Industry And Community Engagement: An Airport Social Responsibility (Asr) Model, Laura Zizka, Doreen Mcgunagle, Patti Clark

Publications

In today’s global economy, the airport industry has achieved uneven results in reporting a balance of growth to preserving environment, enhancing social equity, and providing economic benefits for its stakeholders. Is the absence of reporting consistency a matter of initiative, knowledge, resources or a combination of factors? This exploratory case study reviewed the current sustainability efforts and reporting of 12 randomly selected United States commercial service airports to address what economic, environmental, and social sustainability initiatives were published, what tangible effects the efforts had on stakeholder engagement, and identified the best practices that could be implemented within the industry. Data …

Making Sustainability Disclosure Sustainable, Jill E. Fisch

All Faculty Scholarship

Sustainability is receiving increasing attention from issuers, investors and regulators. The desire to understand issuer sustainability practices and their relationship to economic performance has resulted in a proliferation of sustainability disclosure regimes and standards. The range of approaches to disclosure, however, limit the comparability and reliability of the information disclosed. The Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) has solicited comment on whether to require expanded sustainability disclosures in issuer’s periodic financial reporting, and investors have communicated broad-based support for such expanded disclosures, but, to date, the SEC has not required general sustainability disclosure.

This Article argues that claims about the relationship …

Do Narcissistic Ceos Really Care About Corporate Social Responsibility? The Moderating Role Of Outside Board Of Directors, Jin Sun Ahn

Doctoral Dissertations

During recent years, there has been a growing interest in CEO’s narcissism across a range of disciplines. Various scholars strongly believe that CEO’s narcissism is a compelling element that should not be overlooked when analyzing various organizational outcomes and strategies. Research on CEO’s narcissism has mainly focused on its negative implications on organization outcomes. However, much less attention has been given to its effect on corporate social responsibility (CSR). This study explores the relationship between CEO’s narcissism and stakeholder-driven CSR/social issue participation (SIP). while taking into account the moderating role of outside board of directors. The Geography Of Csr, David K. Ding, Christo Ferreira, Udomsak Wongchoti

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

We regress socio-economic indicators against firm level CSR scores using a sample of over 26,000 firm year observations from 1991 through 2009. We find that a firm's CSR profile is linked to the socio-economic conditions of the firm's geographic headquarters (HQ) location. The study documents that the legal, cultural, economic, and demographic differences across geography significantly explain the variation in CSR means between metropolitan statistical areas, states, and regions. We also find that the relation between CSR and firm performance is conditional on socio-economic factors, which highlight the endogeneity concerns inherent in CSR studies. Lastly, we show that firms that …

Journal of Applied Sport Management

This article explores corporate environmentalism across North American major league professional sport through a webpage content analysis of disclosed business practices and programs. The results of the content analysis reify previous academic work, which suggests corporate environmental responsibility in professional sport is varied. Yet, the results also point to an increasingly standardized approach to integrated/operational business practices focusing on materials and resources, and energy and atmosphere, as well as campaign-based programs focusing on corporate social marketing. The findings identify an opportunity for professional team sport organizations to innovate new cause-related marketing and cause promotion programs, and point to a key …

Strategies To Reduce Risks Associated With Corporate Social Responsibility Lending, Victor Johnson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Bank managers have transacted six trillion dollars of new loans in low and moderate income (LMI) communities because of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) mandate. CRA originated mortgages accounted for over 42% of the defaulted loans because of limited risk strategies. Based on the Aguilera conceptual framework, the purpose of this exploratory single case study was to explore the strategies CSR bank managers used to reduce the risks associated with lending in LMI communities. Data were collected and analyzed from semistructured interviews of five bank managers working in one financial organization located within the U.S. Northeast. Data also included the …
