Meta-Engagement: An Examination Of Employee Engagement Antecedant Variable Interactions And The Impact On Engagement Outcomes., Joshua Branden Jordan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation is a meta-analysis of employee engagement, employee engagement antecedent variable relationships, and the impact on engagement outcomes. Specifically, this analysis excluded the use of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) as a measure for employee engagement. Using the model proposed by Shuck and Wollard (2011) to understand relationship magnitude, this study examined the relationship of employee engagement antecedents (work-family conflict and supportive organizational culture), antecedents in relation to employee engagement and intent to turnover, and the relationship between employee engagement and intent to turnover. The results suggest a significant effect size for the pairing work family conflict/intent to …

Organizational Conditions That Promote And Impede Research Engagement: The Principal’S Perspective, Renee Treat Dec 2019

Organizational Conditions That Promote And Impede Research Engagement: The Principal’S Perspective, Renee Treat

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The researcher explored perceptions of the research-practice gap in education, the process through which central actors make decisions related to teacher retention and development, and the organizational conditions that promote and impede research-engagement in this qualitative study. The researcher limited the study to the role of the campus principal and used purposive sampling to select participants from 3 diverse districts in the state of Texas. Because there may be discrepancies between leaders’ perceptions and behaviors, the researcher conducted interview sessions with principals and principal supervisors and conducted observation sessions in principals’ natural work environments. The study results showed that good …

Sensemaking In The Process Of Inquiry: A Qualitative Case Study Of A Networked Improvement Community, Bethany Fillers Aug 2019

Sensemaking In The Process Of Inquiry: A Qualitative Case Study Of A Networked Improvement Community, Bethany Fillers

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

There are persistent and pervasive issues plaguing American education, and almost seventy years of educational reform efforts have failed to adequately improve educational outcomes for many of America’s children. Networked improvement communities (or NICs) are a type of social organization created to address such problems and are proposed as an effective and efficient way to organize improvement efforts. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the sensemaking experience of a newly-formed networked improvement community as members engaged in inquiry around a chosen problem of practice. During network initiation, NIC members engage in experiences to collaboratively identify and …

Balancing Exploration, Exploitation, And Efficiency : A Framework Of Entrepreneurial Learning., Shaun Paul Digan May 2019

Balancing Exploration, Exploitation, And Efficiency : A Framework Of Entrepreneurial Learning., Shaun Paul Digan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Entrepreneurial learning (EL), defined as “learning in the entrepreneurial process through which individuals acquire new knowledge, either vicariously or from direct experience, which has the potential to change the range of entrepreneurial actions”, is a key construct in the pursuit and development of entrepreneurial opportunities. However, the field of entrepreneurship has yet to produce a theory of learning explaining under what conditions individuals engage in differing types of entrepreneurial learning. Further, the limited research within this line of inquiry is diverse and disconnected. In this research, I attempt to advance the literature on organizational and entrepreneurial learning through the examination …

Comparative Assessment Of The Flow State Scale And The Work-Related Flow Inventory: A Relative Weights Analysis, Samantha Gildemeister Jan 2019

Comparative Assessment Of The Flow State Scale And The Work-Related Flow Inventory: A Relative Weights Analysis, Samantha Gildemeister

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Flow experiences, or optimal experiences of intense concentration and enjoyment, were originally measured using qualitative measures. More recently, quantitative measures such as the Flow State Scale (FSS) and the Work-Related Flow Inventory (WOLF) allowed for structural assessment of the construct, but the vague definition of flow led to variability in the foundation of the measurement. As such, this study aimed to investigate the extent of overlap between the FSS and the WOLF at the factor level in a sample of working adults. Specifically, we investigated the relation between the nine FSS factors and the three WOLF factors using confirmatory factor …

The Generation Z Handbook: A Grounded Theory Approach To Motivation In The Workplace, Justin Mahutga Jan 2019

The Generation Z Handbook: A Grounded Theory Approach To Motivation In The Workplace, Justin Mahutga

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Organizations must develop human capital to remain competitive in today’s economic landscape (Crook, Todd, Combs, Woehr, & Ketchen, 2011; Noe, 2017). Motivation is one aspect of human capital development that organizational research has difficulty understanding (Kovach, 1980), and given the recent introduction of Generation Z into the workforce (Ferri-Reed, 2016), this thesis seeks to understand the process of organizational motivation for Generation Z from a communication perspective. By applying grounded theory methods to 13 interviews, I illustrate several exploratory relationships within an emergent framework to describe the process of motivation for Generation Z participants. Primarily, subjects demonstrate that through the …
