The study is an investigation of the sustainability of agriculture in Nigeria using Rubber as case study. Edo and Abia states were sampled for the study with 300 questionnaires administered in 10 communities among rubber farmers. The study is an investigation of the socio-demographic distribution of the rubber farmers, perception of rubber farmers, and influence of government activities. Sources of information and the data were cumulated for Nigeria as a whole. The data were analyzed using statistical analysis.

Consumer adoption of renewable energies is an important step towards less carbon-intensive and more sustainable energy systems. But despite growing ecological awareness and articulated preferences for green products, renewable energies face slow rates of diffusion in consumer markets. This paper proposes design principles for the ‘sustainability syndicate’: shared responsibility among diverse stakeholders for sustainability; an agenda for unifying economic and ethical rationales; and plural governance based primarily on markets, contracts and collaborative relationships. The paper suggests a research agenda directed at issues that constrain sustainability syndicates. Syndication's contributions to sustainability build upon its trans-organizational structures for shared responsibility. Syndication works as an insurance cooperative that reduces the financial burden of risk. Institutional Theory And Corporate Sustainability: Determinant Versus Interactive Approaches, Jeffrey Gauthier

Institutional theory has shifted from determinant to interactive arguments in recent decades, and sustainability scholarship reflects this change. In this article, I consider whether this shift is empirically justified. I review the use of both determinant and interactive arguments in sustainability research and test two sets of competing hypotheses regarding the likelihood of adoption of sustainable practices. Through logistic regression analysis of a sample of 391 U.S.-based firms, I find no support for hypotheses grounded in determinant arguments, but strong support for hypotheses based on interactive arguments. The results of this study offer implications for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.

The growing number of voluntary standards for governing transnational arenas is presenting standards organizations with a problem. While claiming that they are pursuing shared, overarching objectives, at the same time, they are promoting their own respective standards that are increasingly similar. By developing the notion of ‘standards markets,’ this paper examines this tension and studies how different social movement and industry-driven standards organizations compete as well as collaborate over governance in transnational arenas. The losses reported from the so-called sub-prime category, and the collateral damage suffered by some councils, has brought renewed scrutiny of their financial viability and the investment practices which are employed across the local government sector. The diversity of prudential investment standards which currently apply in Australia also suggests that the investment policies expected to deliver optimal economic outcomes for ratepayers require reform. In conjunction with the moves to address the financial sustainability of the sector, this paper argues that reforms are needed to standardise investment powers, empower councils to develop appropriate investment objectives, and to centralise funds management.- 2

In this paper, the long-run relationship between Sri Lankan exports and imports during the period 1950 to 2006 is examined using unit root tests and cointegration techniques that allow for an endogenously determined structural break. The results failed to support the existence of a long-run equilibrium between exports and imports in Sri Lanka. This finding questions the effectiveness of Sri Lanka’s current long-term macroeconomic policies and suggests that Sri Lanka is in violation of its international budget constraint.

We examine 45 existing case studies of firms with strong corporate environmental performance (CEP) to empirically identify four organizational configurations for successful sustainability. These four configurations represent different combinations of variables describing a firm’s external environment, organizational structure, and its strategy-related activities. More specifically, these configurations vary in having a benign or challenging external environment, a mechanistic or organic structure, a low-cost or differentiation strategy, hands-on or hands-off participation by the top-management-team, high or low consideration given to stakeholders, and a short or long-term time orientation. The authors explore how injunctive appeals (i.e., highlighting what others think one should do), descriptive appeals (i.e., highlighting what others are doing), and benefit appeals (i.e., highlighting the benefits of the action) can encourage consumers to engage in relatively unfamiliar sustainable behaviors such as “grasscycling” and composting. Across one field study and three laboratory studies, the authors demonstrate that the effectiveness of the appeal type depends on whether the individual or collective level of the self is activated. When the collective level of self is activated, injunctive and descriptive normative appeals are most effective, whereas benefit appeals are less effective …

This dissertation consists of three papers, all using CoStar Group, Inc. Commercial Real Estate (CRE) data. The rst two papers explore Sustainable Real Estate (Energy STAR and LEED building) rental premiums. The third paper develops and tests a new method for the empirical testing of CRE. Paper number one, Managing Well by Managing Good, is the rst paper to argue against the existence of sustainable real estate premiums. It demonstrates that some of the Sustainable Real Estate rent premiums previously shown in the literature are neither theoretically nor empirically supported. We study a stochastic, discrete-time, economy-environment integrated model, where human activity affects the evolution of pollution over time. We assume that exogenous i.i.d. environmental shocks determine the rate of pollution transfer. We show that the pollution to capital ratio dynamics can be read as an iterated function system converging to an invariant distribution supported on a (asymmetric) Cantor set, and that human intervention aiming at offsetting the environmental impact of economic activities is needed to ensure sustainability.
