Two Decades Of Rpl/Apel In Ireland: Practitioner Views, Deirdre Goggin
Level 3
My initial involvement was as an RPL assessor of an application for a marketing subject I was delivering through the Continuing Education Department. At the time RPL was not as developed as it is now within CIT. I received the required paper work and sat down with Phil O’Leary, CIT’s RPL Officer, who familiarised me with the process. In later years I moved from the private sector into the RPL office of CIT. I assisted staff and students in the RPL process, in preparing and assessing material. In conjunction with Phil O’Leary we developed an updated student handbook for circulation …

Leo- Paul Dana
In this paper, we focus on entrepreneurship education at universities in Japan. In this country, entrepreneurship in terms of willingness to take the risk of setting up a business is at the lowest level in international comparison surveys such as the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. This tendency to have a lack of entrepreneurship among Japanese people is based on the traditional cultural climate which is not necessarily favourable for entrepreneurs. The era of economic expansion needs another period of vitality after overcoming the crisis and stagnation since the beginning of the 1990s after the collapse of a so-called bubble economy. Under …

Ties That Bind: A Network Perspective On University Spinouts, Patrick Mchugh
Ties That Bind: A Network Perspective On University Spinouts, Patrick Mchugh
2013
Research universities execute technology transfer initiatives to transition university inventions to marketplace innovations. This process requires ties to bridge the gap between two disparate networks: a university's research community and a licensing corporate entity. One type of licensing corporate entity, and the focus of this research, is a newly formed university spinout. Utilizing a network lens, this study focuses on the ties between university inventors and spinout licensees and on the impact of various inter-organizational relationships on a spinout's success. This thesis investigates the following research questions: 1. How, if at all, does variation in the nature of the tie …
