The growth in the application of information technology to end-user training (EUT) underscores a fundamental need to understand how these e-learning technologies improve the learning process. Results from the limited EUT studies provide an inconsistent picture of the effects of e-learning technologies. Also, collaborative learning has become one of the most used techniques in American education, yet, we could find only one EUT study on collaborative learning. This paper applies adaptive structuration theory (AST) to the specific area of technology-mediated end-user training. The main focus is on understanding learning, collaboration and technology structures involved, their interactions and appropriation, and their …

The growth in the application of information technology to learning/training underscores the need to understand the impact of these technologies. This paper reports the results of a multi-period quasi-experiment focusing on two e-learning methods: contemporary web-based and video-based training methods. Drawing on the two foundational disciplines of Information Systems and Education, this study presents a theoretical model, based on Adaptive Structuration Theory, which focuses on the learning process involved in technology-mediated learning. The model describes the effect of learning methods as well as the important role of faithful appropriation of learning methods on learning outcomes. Results of the study show …

As eBook eReaders become more popular for personal use why are they not seen more in academia? In particular, would students benefit from using eBook eReaders in academic program? This paper means to investigate the current academic use of eBooks and eReaders including PC/laptops/netbooks as eReaders. As part of the investigation we conducted a small pilot study of graduate students enrolled in an eBusiness strategy course and reviewed existing research. However, current research is very limited in the area of eBook devices (eReader). This paper proposes a framework to classify and evaluate eBook eReaders, reviews the limited existing research then …
