Regulation is intended to protect the vulnerable. However, in its present form the unintended consequences of the proposed Volcker Rule has the potential of continuing the liquidity crisis that aided in the degradation of the housing market into decreased liquidity in the capital markets. In addition to increasing costs to the investor and decreasing market efficiency from increased bid ask price spreads, the proposed rule will transfer risk to less regulated financial institutions as new hedge funds open. Facendo riferimento alla realtà italiana ed europea in generale si evidenzia la progressiva sperimentazione di formule compositive degli organi amministrativi e di controllo finalizzate ad una loro maggiore specializzazione secondo quanto previsto dai principali codici di autodisciplina (soprattutto avuto riguardo alle società aventi titoli negoziati in mercati regolamentati). In January 2011, the Tunisian government stepped down after weeks of protests; this was followed by unrest and protests in Egypt against the Egyptian government, leading also to the resignation of its president. Demonstrations in both countries were facilitated in some part by the online social media and related information and communications technologies that impacted the flow of information. The manner in which the information and communication technologies were employed suggests that the uprisings were a form of social information warfare. Environmental, health, and safety (EHS) concerns are receiving considerable attention in the development of nanoscience and nanotechnology (nano) R&D, underscored by the perspective that EHS work should be developed alongside the scientific research rather than subsequent to applications. This positioning of nano EHS suggests the importance of early understanding and measurement of the diffusion of nano EHS science. This research examines the diffusion of nano EHS publications, defined through a set of search terms, into a global nanotechnology R&D database developed at Georgia Tech. This paper examines questions concerning the creation of trust in mature industrial district in south-east France; notably the quality of intra-district exchanges when compared with extra-district exchanges. The consequences of trusting habits learnt and reinforced in a highly socialised environment are highlighted. Finally, a suspension mechanism, that of identity and role, that SME managers employ in order to reduce uncertainty will be discussed. Results demonstrate that managers have solid foundations on which they may base their local trust decisions. However, they frequently transfer their trusting attitudes to external partners in the absence of such solid foundations. The consequences of this …

Hana Tan, a recently employed college graduate was in the midst of her training program when her manager's manager, a fellow named Eric, humiliated her, in her view, in front of her training group by criticizing her use of a ponytail. She wondered, "Should I quit? Do I have to take this stuff to get ahead? Should I report him?" We discuss the incident in the context of phenomenology, Snyder's self monitoring, Goffman's presentation of self, embeddedness and the role of frank feedback.

Physicians enjoy considerable liberty in the creation of entrepreneurial ventures in the new frontiers of medicine. Professional societies may opine about a new procedure but professionals may feel free to ignore their counsel as well. Two case studies are used to discuss this method of new venture creation; the cases are trait selection through pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and female cosmetic genital surgery (FCGS), both controversial practices. We discuss the ethics and legitimacy of both and how one can use theory to analyze whether or not these are legitimate businesses and how to develop them.
