From Automatic Identification And Data Capture (Aidc) To “Smart Business Process”: Preparing For A Pilot Integrating Rfid, S. F. Wamba, E. Lefebvre, Y. Bendavid, L.. A. Lefebvre

Dr Samuel Fosso Wamba

This paper examines the underlying logic behind the rules configured in a RFID middleware to support “smart business processes” in one retail supply chain. Through a detailed investigation of the underlying business processes, we will demonstrate how businesses rules can be defined, configured and refined in a RFID middleware. The results confirm that RFID technology is not a “Plug and Play” solution. RFID middleware configuration will require a high level of customization. Finally, this study allows the improvement of our understanding of the real potential of RFID technology in the supply chain context.

Social Responsibility Allocation In Two-Echelon Supply Chains: Insights From Wholesale Price Contracts, Debing Ni, Kevin W. Li Dr., Xiaowo Tang Jan 2010

Social Responsibility Allocation In Two-Echelon Supply Chains: Insights From Wholesale Price Contracts, Debing Ni, Kevin W. Li Dr., Xiaowo Tang

Odette School of Business Publications

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is considered in a two-echelon supply chain consisting of an upstream supplier and a downstream firm that are bound by a wholesale price contract. CSR performance (the outcome of CSR conduct) of the whole supply chain is gauged by a global variable and the associated cost of achieving this CSR performance is only incurred by the supplier with an expectation of being shared with the downstream firm via the wholesale price contract. As such, the key issue is to determine who should be allocated as the responsibility holder with the right of offering the contract and …

Supply Chain Integration: Cluster Analysis Of The Impact Of Span Of Integration, Vijay R. Kannan, Keah Choon Tan

Management Faculty Publications

Purpose

This paper aims to explore whether firms that integrate only with partners adjacent to them in the supply chain exhibit different patterns of supply chain practice and performance than those that also integrate with partners more distant in the supply chain.

Design/methodology/approach

Cluster analysis of survey data is used to partition firms based on the span of the supply chain involved in their integration efforts.

Findings

Firms with a broad span of integration have a greater focus on alignment with suppliers and customers, and have more of a supply chain focus than those with a narrow span. They also …

E-Business In Supply Chain Management, Claudia-Maria Wagner, Edward Sweeney

Books/Book chapters

E-business is concerned with the use of the Internet to link companies with their suppliers, customers and other trading partners. As a business concept, it has evolved significantly since its introduction in the 1990’s in parallel with the rapid rate of development of information technology (IT) during this period.
Supply chain management (SCM) is fundamentally concerned with integration of activities both with
and between organisations. IT plays a crucial role in SCM as a key enabler of supply chain integration
(SCI). This chapter sets out the role of e-business concepts in the context of the supply chain challenges faced by …

Supply Chain Information And Relational Alignments: Mediators Of Edi On Firm Performance, Keah Choon Tan, Vijay R. Kannan, Chin-Chun Hsu, G. Keong Leong

Management Faculty Publications

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of inter-organization information exchange on supply chain information and relational alignment. Drawing on literature on information systems, supply chain management, and logistics, the paper aims to present a multidimensional framework for considering electronic data interchange (EDI) adoption in supplier management and its effect on information and relational alignment. Design/methodology/approach: Theories drawn from resource-dependent and transaction cost economics, and the resource-based view of the firm were used to establish hypotheses. Structural equation modeling using survey data of manufacturing firms was used to test the hypotheses and research model. Findings: Results …

Interpreting A Case Of Outsourcing Shift-Gears In The Car Industry Using Different Theorys Simultaneously, Henrik Blomgren Jan 2010

Interpreting A Case Of Outsourcing Shift-Gears In The Car Industry Using Different Theorys Simultaneously, Henrik Blomgren

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2010

The purpose of this paper is to bring forward a methodology that makes it possible to handle different theoretical models simultaneously when analyzing cases of outsourcing - without ending up with contradictary conclusions. The approach used in the paper is a development of a framework, the analysis of three commonly used models (The Make-or-buy model, the Network approach, and Industrial strategy) and a case study where outsourcing of shift-gears in the carindustry is analysed. The paper addresses the basic need to clearify the fundamental assumtions embedded in theories applied on outsourcing. It also clearifies very hands-on how the suggested methodology …

A Successful International Joint Venture: Exploring The Critical Success Factors Of Starbucks Korea, Kyuho Lee, Melih Madanoglu, Jae-Youn Ko

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2010

International joint venture has become a key foreign entry mode among global service firms. Scholars have devoted significant attention to the theory of international joint venture in the past three decades. However, despite growing interest from academics and practitioners alike, research that would synthesize the model of a successful international joint venture in the service industry has not been established. To close this gap, we undertook a qualitative study using Starbuck Korea case. This study investigates how Starbucks Korea, an international joint venture between the Starbucks Corporation and the Shinsegae Corporation (the Korean joint venture partner of Starbucks Korea) has …

Does The Degree Of Internationalization Moderate The Market Orientation-Performance Relationship?, Ed Bruning Jan 2010

Does The Degree Of Internationalization Moderate The Market Orientation-Performance Relationship?, Ed Bruning

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2010

This study examines the moderating effect of foreign market expansion orientation on the market orientation-performance relationship. It is argued the traditional notion of market orientation overlooks a number of realities that occur in foreign markets that lead to effects on market orientation. A sample of Canadian businesses is analyzed using moderator regression analysis. The findings support the contention that foreign market expansion orientation moderates the relationship as expected.

Tthe Effect Of Acculturation On Franchise Relationships, Sally Baalbaki Jan 2010

Tthe Effect Of Acculturation On Franchise Relationships, Sally Baalbaki

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2010

Buyer-seller relationships and franchisee-franchisor relationships, have been studied excessively in the past. One of the causes of the growing importance of research on franchising has been the increased reliance on the service sector in many developed countries. However, the role of the franchisee has not been adequately studied in the literature outside of the buyer-seller relational framework, and especially not in conjunction with the concept of acculturation. Interpersonal relationships are critical in a service industry, offering an important reason to undergo a study of culture and acculturation within this industry, specifically from the franchisee perspective. The purpose of this research …

Organization Structure And Service Capabilities As Predictors Of Supply Chain Performance: B2b Seller’S Perspective, Harash J. Sachdev, G. Russell Merz Jan 2010

Organization Structure And Service Capabilities As Predictors Of Supply Chain Performance: B2b Seller’S Perspective, Harash J. Sachdev, G. Russell Merz

Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Proceedings 2010

In buyer-seller exchanges the seller not only provides the goods and service but also transfers its organization capabilities on to the buying firm. Improper selection and usage of these capabilities may reduce the seller’s sustainable competitive edge in future transactions in this supply chain. Through field interviews and Resource Based View literature, the authors propose and test a model linking organization structure, service capabilities, and seller’s satisfaction and performance in business-to-business exchanges. Based on eighty-seven responses, the results indicate that autonomous structure has a positive impact on all three service capabilities. Formalization has a positive influence on only logistics service …

Impact Of Disasters On Firms In Different Sectors: Implications For Supply Chains, Nezih Altay, Andres Ramirez

Nezih Altay

Disasters keep damaging infrastructure, disrupting supply chains and affecting firm profitability. There is an urgent need for better understanding of disaster impact on supply chains but very few publications address this issue. This exploratory study takes an indirect approach and investigates disaster impact on firms in various industry sectors. This approach allows us to take full advantage of large secondary data bases of firm and disaster data in order to analyze the impact of over 3,500 disasters on more than 100,000 firm-year observations over 15 years. Our results indicate that disasters impact all sectors within a supply chain. We found …
