Transportation of food accounts for a significant fraction of the carbon dioxide emissions believed to be adversely impacting climate and the environment. And this impact is increasing as food supply chains become longer and more complex, and food packaging requirements lead to increased waste. Many organizations such as hospitals and upper level education are becoming increasingly concerned about sustainability. But his current initiative presents the most daunting challenges he has yet faced. One of the most promising innovations in poverty alleviation was the concept of microfinance, the provision of small-scale loans and other financial services to poor entrepreneurs. And although the government of Nepal strongly supported microfinance models, a decade-long civil war ending in 2006 had severely disrupted government services and worsened poverty. In the terai, or plains, of Nepal, government and non-profit microfinance institutions …

Green Brewing: Part Two, Madeleine E. Pullman

Business Faculty Publications and Presentations

In part one of our Green Brewing series, we started our journey down the rabbit-hole of beer production and the environment with a discussion about energy use and gas recovery. We took a glimpse into specific breweries in the region and studied how they address their energy demand and how they control their carbon dioxide and nitrogen release, depending on size, location, and other factors. Continuing in part two, we follow the theme of sustainability by examining the “greenness” of commonly used brewing ingredients, containers, and ancillary packaging in the beer supply chain. We look at how brewing companies at …

Methods: The IGNITE (investigation to guide new insights for translational effectiveness) trial is a prospective cohort study of a worksite wellness and injury reduction program from adoption to final outcomes among 12 fire departments.
