Work-Family Conflict And Health: A Study Of The Workplace, Psychological, And Behavioral Correlates, Susan R. Madsen, Cameron John, Duane Miller

Quantitative methods are used to shed light on the relationships among work-family conflict, health, and other workplace, psychological, and behavioral constructs, i.e., organizational commitment, management/leadership relations, job knowledge and skills, job demands, workplace social relations, and readiness for change. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data regarding the perceptions of 464 employees in four organizations. Negative correlations were found between work-family conflict and all variables except job knowledge and skills. Significant relationships were also discovered between health and all study variables. Multiple regressions were used to explore the relationships between the demographic variables and work-family conflict and health.

Impacts Of B2c E-Commerce On Hospital Productivity: An Empirical Study, Shin-Yuan Hung, Hsin-Min Hung, Mu-Yi Huang

This work conducted a comprehensive study of Business-to-Consumer Electronic Commerce (B2C e-Commerce) applications in Taiwanese hospitals. To further assess the impacts of B2C e-Commerce on hospital productivity, this study also employed three quantitative methods to analyze historical data. The results confirm those of broader research into applications of B2C e-Commerce to hospitals. Additionally, the results of the quantitative analysis demonstrate that B2C e-Commerce significantly impacts the hospital productivity.

Responsibility For Occupational Health And Safety Outcomes In The Labour Hire Industry: A Tripartite Arrangement?, Alex Spillett, Michael Zanko, Andrew J. Sense

Labour hire workers are one category of a group more generally labelled contingent, temporary, precarious or casual workers. Research shows they are generally at increased risk of occupational injury and illness compared to permanent employees. It is proposed that one of the causal factors is the unique tripartite employment relationship used to engage labour hire. The dynamics and behaviours in this triangular relationship are discussed with reference to the legal and organisational uncertainty that it frequently presents. This article reflects on the way in which accounting-related thinking influenced one particular historical event: the process of deinstitutionalisation from mental hospitals in New South Wales. The article suggests that accounting (via economic rationalism and other allied philosophical lenses ) led to the under funding of the deinstitutionalisation process to the detriment of society as a whole. Some of the societal difficulties inherent in using such rationalist calculus (biased towards quantified, monetary, accounting entity assumptions) as a means of evaluating social policies are then considered.

This paper examines the use of Actor Network Theory (ANT) as a lens to get a better understanding of the implementation of the Integrated Care Record Service (ICRS) in the UK National Health Service (NHS). Actor Network Theory has been deployed in various environments to achieve a better understanding of the roles of not only the humans but also the artifacts that constitute, in this case, healthcare networks of services and organisations.
