The rapidly expanding use of the Internet for e-commerce has left academics and practitioners with many questions about consumer use of this new marketing channel. This study was intended to explore the Internet use, online purchasing and payment habits, and comfort level with e-commerce of certain long-term future consumers. 203 US and German college students participated in an online survey intended to explore the previously mentioned concerns. Similarities and differences between US and German students’ online e-commerce practices are discussed and compared with results of prior research. Written language is the core of culture and central to marketing communications. The differences in language processing exhibited by Eastern/Western bilingual consumers are of great concern for global and multinational companies wishing to effectively promote their products through the Internet. Advergaming is a promotional method consisting of the delivery of advertising messages through electronic games. Despite recent scholarly interest, no previous research has compared brand memory across groups of bilinguals of different writing systems or scripts in the advergaming context.

Purpose - A classical model of organizational ecology dynamics which is utilized to characterize an ecosystem called the internet is proposed and a parallel is drawn between the population ecology model and the current global e-commerce environment.
Design/methodology/approach - Survivorship theory is applied to global e-commerce. The Verhulst-Pearl logistic equation can be used to describe the inhibition of growth within an ecosystem. The approach is to apply the Verhulst-Pearl logistic equation to describe international growth dynamics of the internet.
