Research on the consumer behavior of the Hispanic population has recently attracted the attention of marketing practitioners as well as researchers. This study's purpose was to develop a model and scales to examine the acculturation process of Hispanic consumers with income levels of $35,000 and above, and its effects on their consumer behavior. The proposed model defined acculturation as a bilinear and multidimensional change process, measuring consumers' selective change process in four dimensions: language preference, Hispanic identification, American identification, and familism. Adaptation is an important requirement for mobile applications due to the varying levels of resource availability that characterizes mobile environments. However without proper control, multiple applications can each adapt independently in response to a range of different adaptive stimuli, causing conflicts or sub optimal performance. In this thesis we presented a framework, which enables multiple adaptation mechanisms to coexist on one platform. The key component of this framework was the 'Policy Server', which has all the system policies and governs the rules for adaptation. Prices of U.S. Treasury securities vary over time and across maturities. When the market in Treasurys is sufficiently complete and frictionless, these prices may be modeled by a function time and maturity. A cross-section of this function for time held fixed is called the yield curve; the aggregate of these sections is the evolution of the yield curve. This dissertation studies aspects of this evolution.

There are two complementary approaches to the study of yield curve evolution here. The first is principal components analysis; the second is wavelet analysis. In both approaches both the time and maturity variables are discretized. …

A study of luxury hotel general managers identifies the skills and personal characteristics respondents perceived as most important to their career development, as well as the future requirements for unit level managers and the major challenges they anticipate. The author then maps those skills and personal characteristics identified by respondents against future industry challenges to suggest additional managerial needs. The authors examine underlying dimensions of private club leadership using principal components analysis. The data were collected between 1996 and 2003 from 702 club managers or club chief operating officers who are members of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA). Five factors - innovation, vision, inner values, stewardship, and communication - were identified as essentials of private club leadership.

With the rise of smoking restrictions and bans in the hospitality industry the author discusses solutions that are implemented to protect the workforce and guests from involuntary smoking. Historical and societal contexts are drawn, and enforcement of smoking bans as well as their economic impact is explored in an international perspective, primarily since US researchers have propelled the research on smoking and health issues. The author illustrates that there has been no way to avoid enforcements of strict smoking restrictions, and the struggle to do so could just delay the process and waste resources.
