Single Minded? : Implementing Common Financial Systems, Mark E. Pickering

Mark E Pickering

As companies grow via acquisition they collect a variety of separate and often quite diverse financial systems belonging to the newly acquired companies. While there is a substantial cost to implementing a common financial system across the merged group. Is that cost outweighed by the benefits of a single system? This article uses a case study to highlight options for different degrees of finance system commonality, potential benefits of each option and a framework for analysing the appropriate level of commonality.

M-Garch Hedge Ratios And Hedging Effectiveness In Australian Futures Markets, Wenling Yang Jan 2000

M-Garch Hedge Ratios And Hedging Effectiveness In Australian Futures Markets, Wenling Yang

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

This study deals with the estimation of the optimal hedge ratios using various econometric models. Most of the recent papers have demonstrated that the conventional ordinary least squares (OLS) method of estimating constant hedge ratios is inappropriate, other more complicated models however seem to produce no more efficient hedge ratios. Using daily AOIs and SPI futures on the Australian market, optimal hedge ratios are calculated from four different models: the OLS regression model, the bivariate vector autoaggressive model (BVAR), the error-correction model (ECM) and the multivariate diagonal Vcc GARCH Model. The performance of each hedge ratio is then compared. The …

The capital asset pricing model, the Black-Scholes option pricing formula, the concept of risk as standard deviation or volatility, and the use of Sharpe, Treynor, and other performance measures are not consistent with nonnormal distributions. Unfortunately, nonnormality is common among distributions of financial time …
