An Analysis Of Attitudes In Jefferson Township, Christine Ann Serrino

The Political Economy Of External Debt: A Case Study Of Latin America, Elisabeth Ann Johnson Jan 1994

The Political Economy Of External Debt: A Case Study Of Latin America, Elisabeth Ann Johnson

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

I believe that high external debt service requirements act as a restraint on economic growth and aggravate macroeconomic and microeconomic imbalances within an economy. Large future repayments act as a tax on investment, both foreign and domestic, encourage capital flight, and decrease savings. Inflation increases due to currency devaluations that result from the promotion of export goods and services in international markets to repay the debt and uncertainty in the domestic financial markets. Austerity measures, designed to correct fiscal problems, decrease public expenditures and private consumption. The final result is a lack of economic growth and a decline in the …

A Quarterly General Fund Revenue Forecasting Model For Clark County, George A. Sodders Jan 1994

A Quarterly General Fund Revenue Forecasting Model For Clark County, George A. Sodders

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

The Clark County econometric general fund revenue forecasting model developed establishes a connection between conditions in the local and national economy. The model was designed to hold economic rationale and econometric modeling procedure. In the model, variation in the predictor variables account for 70% of the variation in the general fund revenue collection.

Econometric models reflect the conditions present in the local, regional, and national economy at the time of development. Since conditions in the economy are subject to change, the relationship of the predictor variable to general fund revenue collections may change in the future.

The nation's colleges and universities are aware of the growing dropout problem. Research to date has focused on the importance of social integration of students as well as the type of students who initially enroll as two major components of student success.

This study attempted to analyze models that combined both academic preparation and social integration (in this case student employment on campus), to study Fall Quarter 1992 direct from high school full time degree freshmen.

The results were very consistent with the relevant literature in that first year retention as well as first year grade point averages were linked …

Gas Peak Design Day Analysis, Kerry Elaine Broehl

Masters Culminating Experiences (1993-2011)

The changing natural gas industry has increased the importance for utility companies to develop an accurate peak day forecast. The model developed for this midwest utility estimates a firm natural gas sendout econometrically, using the Ordinary Least Squares regression analysis. The peak is primarily weather driven, thus the model made use of wind-chill variables from the current day, the previous day, and the current day squared. Also included is a disposable income variable to reflect the level of economic activity.

The peak day forecast depends on using extreme weather conditions for the design day parameters. The parameters used represented the …
